  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Extended Warranty or Not?

Food for thought. Since Genesis is kinda separating from Hyundai wonder if they might offer a better extended warranty for Gens only just to show they're upgrading their offerings. Never no what lurks in the corporate mind.
I guess that is possible, but Genesis Motors USA is still part of Hyundai Motor America.

Even the most reliable cars can have issues. Like others said, electronics add up fast and these cars have a lot of them. Even something like the seat motors or sunroof motors can fail within 10 years (they did on my last reliable car). I usually don't get warranties but I made an exception on this car because the cost of the warranty is fairly small over the 10years of ownership given the price of the car.

I don't think I've ever owned a car with as many electronics as the Genesis. I've not found any sites or discussions on warranty and non-warranty repairs on the Genesis.

I just purchased a 2015 AWD Ultimate with just a tick over 40,000 miles and added Hyundai's 'CPO Wrap" extended warranty. $1950 to extend the bumper to bumper out to 10 years/120,000 miles. With the pano sunroof issues I've heard of and the amount of electronic gadgets our cars have, it's worth having just for the peace of mind. :-)

Yes, check the wording of the contract carefully.

My extended warranty says it will cover parts that fail, but not parts that wear.

So the drive shaft coupler on my 2010 Genesis Coupe, which was dried out and cracked but hadn't actually failed yet, would not be covered.

Luckily Hyundai's 10 year 100,000 mile warranty covered it (along with a second replacement manual transmission) at 74,000 miles.

There is one member of this forum who is a Hyundai dealer parts manager who sells the Hyundai warranties.

Could you tell me who this is? Or if that's not appropriate, somebody please private message me with the info? Thanks.

I am getting close to the end of my Hyundai extended warrenty, based on miles, not years. My big concern is the complicated and expensive electronics: not only radio, but lane change warning, etc etc. Does anyone know of a way to either extend the Hyundai extended warranty or a good third party warranty that will cover all of the electronics, etc that is affordable. I have a 2015 AWD Ultimate

Steering Module Repair covered by auto insurance? Crazy talk.

Yes, it should be covered by auto insurance. It isn't covered under the Hyundai extended service contract. I have no clue why they put the module so close to the ground.

I'll try to find my contract and scan it up to the site. The exclusion section is pretty extensive.

No, I do not believe you can extend an existing service contract. You might check with Endurance, as they have contracts for older/high mileage cars...but they are expensive. If you have GEICO, they have contracts as well but can only get them if you have their auto insurance.

Could you give us some details on your car. How many miles does it have and a general idea of how many warranty claims you've had. Also, do you live in the north or south of the USA?

2015 Genesis Ultimate AWD with 80,000 miles liing in the southern US. I have made 0 warranty claims

I would recommend a warranty extension if you can get it. Mine is sitting at the dealer for a $1200 blind spot module, a $700 mirror and a $1000 driveshaft. The warranty company is going to scream haha.

Old thread I know but just purchased a used G90 with 5K miles on it from a Hyundai dealership.

Dealership would not sell me the Hyundai extended warranty until I pushed really hard and threatened to not buy the car.

Finance guy got on the phone with Genesis/Hyundai and figured out how to sell one. Took him about 30 minutes to figure out what to do. He had never even pursued a Hyundai extended warranty. I had negotiated the extended warranty cost at $2395.00 before I came to the dealership; bought the car out of state.

Once he figured out he could sell the Hyundai warranty they wanted to charge me more than the amount I had negotiated. Again I said no way, it has to be what we talked about or no deal.

They eventually came down on the price to what we had agreed and we walked out with a Genesis/Hyundai Platinum Extended Warranty (VSC) and a good deal on it.

While we were walking out the finance guy thanked us for pursuing the Hyundai extended warranty because he said now he has more options for customers.

So yes,I do believe every Hyundai dealership can sell you a Hyundai Extended Warranty. You may just have to play a little hard ball with finance guy to get it!

On a side note, from the research found here and other places the Genesis 10 year 100K warranty does not transfer to the new owner if you are the second owner.

However, when I called to set up the Genesis Connect for my car the amazing customer service person I talked to told me if you buy your car with 6K or less miles on it, and you can send them your contract from the dealer and your odometer statement showing less than 6K miles at purchase, Genesis will transfer everything over to you, as if you bought the car new!! They call this an RDR Correction.

So the three years of free maintenance, the 5 year 60K miles basic warranty, the 10 year 100K power train coverage, and the three year map update, and everything else transfers to you as if you bought the car new!

What a great surprise to find that out!

So now we have a G90 with just over 5 K miles, and a full wrap warranty and all the bells and whistles of the manufacture warranty and the extended platinum warranty coverage on an amazing car for a total of $25K less money than what the car sold for new Without an extended warranty!

I am really feeling blessed to have found out all of this, to be able to get the deal we have, and to drive such an amazing car, and hope something here will help someone else be able to do the same.

P.S. You will love the G90!! I drove just about everything and did research for over a year, and this seems to be the best luxury car on the planet when you consider all the facets for car ownership and cost.

The steering module would only be covered by auto insurance if you damaged it in a car accident. If a bad steering module caused your accident, the steering module would NOT be covered, but the other parts that were damaged in the accident would be covered.

All of this is assuming that you have collision coverage on your auto insurance. Now if your accident was hitting an animal like a deer your would need comprehensive coverage.

Car insurance does not cover any part of your car for wear and tear.
Ever.

Not correct. If you have comprehensive coverage, you can eat an at-fault and claim anything you want on it. Rates go up though.

Do you know of any dealers that sell the Genesis VSC ?

No Genesis dealers near me will sell the Genesis VSC, they will only sale 3rd party "warranties," 4/48 for $4000.

They sell them, but yours makes more on aftermarket hence why they push them.

Details on your car? Year, mileage, etc?

2018 G90 49,800 Miles: AWD Ultimate 5.0

I can’t get Genesis OKC nor Genesis Tulsa to sell me a Genesis VSC which i should be able to purchase before my factory bumper to bumper expires, called Genesis they won’t help, the dealers only offer the 3rd party - i totally get their motives, but nevertheless, doesn’t help my situation

totally reminds me why buying this product is not a good idea when comparing to the ease and clarity of doing this with Volvo or Acura

You simply waited too long to get a good extended warranty deal. Presumably, you bought your car in 2017, an ‘18 model. At this point you have a car with 50,000 miles on it and you are not going to find a “reasonable” price for a warranty.

You’d be better off just saving that money as a rainy day car repair fund. Assuming you bought your car brand new you have a nice 10 year/100,000 mile warranty on the powertrain already, so what’s the big deal? Furthermore, who is to say that you won’t spot a lovely ‘22, or ‘23 model that you just have to have?
