Do yourselves a favor and pick up a DVD-A in surround sound by the Blue Man Group called "Audio" I got mine at CDUniverse..... It will test your subwoofer but generally speaking if set up right and at a volumn of about 23 it will shake your insides...... you will feel the music more than hear it......

I have around 50 discs at this time, a combination of dvd-a's, dts cd's and dvd's. (when will this addiction to 5.1 end?!) I make a clone copy of each so as not to damage the original. (payed big bucks for some of the best dvd-a's)

How are you cloning the DVD-A discs? I've found no way to create playable copies of those discs, although I can use Toast to create playable clones of my DTS discs.

DVDFab is the ticket - http://www.dvdfab.com/ - In fact, you can also rip them to other file types, like mp3. (I know, you ask why rip 5.1 to mp3? Doing so allows me to play the songs on my computer, etc. The only system I have capable of playing 5.1 is in the genny)

George Benson, Songs And Stories. Smooth jazz isn't everyone's cup of tea, But the 5.1 mix is superb on this.
I got it at Best Buy, $16.99, CD/DVD combo.

The Blueman group disc I have was good, but this one is in another league.

Since Dan kicked this thread (thanks Dan!) I'll quickly mention 2 more new releases:
1. Chicago Transit Authority. Later just called Chicago, this was their debut album and includes Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, Beginnings, Questions 67 & 68, and others. But those 3 were all top ten hits. I got mine directly from Rhino for $30, but it may be in stores or at Amazon for less. It's pricey, but after the 1:15 piano intro to DARKWTII and the brass kicks in behind you you'll be grinning ear to ear!

2. The Incident, by Porcupine Tree. PT usually releases a DVD-A version about 6 months after the stereo version and this was no exception. The music may not be for everyone, a mix of prog rock with some hints of metal, but this group records, mixes, and masters with a respect and care for surround sound. On the Lexicon it's amazing.

And for those stumbling into this thread for the first time...
DVD-A and DTS surround new releases are few and far between, which doesn't make too much sense given the number of cars being sold that can play them. Personally, I try to support the format whenever possible just to encourage more future product. Lastly...
3 clicks to the rears in Settings!

Sorry for the late reply, but I kept forgetting to confirm this:
I have a CD called "Silencio" by Gidon Kremer. Burned it into iTunes, then loaded into my iPod. It's unbelievable that the 7.1 makes this stereo recording sound multichannel! Violins from every speaker! It might even be better playing the CD directly.
Anyway, that's my violin suggestion. For the record, "surround" is engaged, EQ is flat, and rears are biased 3 clicks.

Has anyone had a chance to listen to Blueman group's "The Complex"?
For some reason, the recordings aren't as impressive as the "The Audio". Or the "Songs and Stories" by George Benson recommended by BtHBC.
The disc cover says it has 3 different recordings, but I can't find a way to select the audio mode.

Dan, assuming you're talking about DVD-A, begin playing it. Use the DIS knob to move to the right of Track 1 or any track. At the bottom you'll see Groups. Select that. Often the stereo mix, bonus material, etc are there but unlabeled. Trial and error is your best bet. For example, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Elton John) has about 7 or 8 groups!
If the disc you're talking about is DVD-V then those groups or audio selections are usually found in the main menu.

Thanks for the tip. I ended up purchasing a DVD-A of Vivaldi-The Four Seasons. Special music, although I believe the surround mix could be a little better. I purchased it from Amazon-UK. Note to self: Check the conversion rate before doing that again.

Okay, elshagon, I liked your description of this DVD so I got it. This is my first attempt to use the soundsurround. It was magnificent, but my wife couldn't tolerate it at the level I was playing it [12] So I was manually compressing the concert. When the track would soften I would boost it back to 12 then back off to 10 or 9. Can't wait to get in the car alone. I found that using the fader to move the delivery back of center helped a whole lot. Today's task: Find out what the heck is on that second DVD-A since all the songs for the show are on disc 1. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Dan, I just went to Besbuy's website and found the CD for $14.99, but the Digipak with CD and DVD is $19.99. I don't think I want the CD, but the DVD-A, right?

I'm not Dan, but yes you want the combo of CD and DVD-A. The Dvd-A lives in my car, the CD in my wife's.
And I agree with a bias to the rears. 3 or 4 "clicks" should be perfect.
