  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good luck to all of you

Trading in my GV70 2.5 prestige on a 2022 M440xi Convertible tomorrow. I've loved the car, but the dealerships and Genesis lack of control over the dealerships service of Genesis has made me sell. Complimentary maintenance takes over a month to schedule, no loaner cars, no distinction between Genesis and Hyundai- nothing tenable anyways, crappy lousy horrible initial delivery at Ed Voyles in Marietta GA have made me look elsewhere.
The SUV though, I'll miss it some, the seats were blissfully comfortable, the sound system with my Amazon Music HD subscription was truly the best I've ever heard and even better than my Mercedes. The body and interior are stunning, mine was Melbourne Gray with a red interior. I've always been terrified to scratch the paint though because of it being Matte so I'd recommend shying away from a Matte paint if you have the same concerns.

I hope things get better for all of you. Enjoy your ride.

The sort of complaint that drove you to switch brand is unfortunately all too common. Genesis is trying to fix the dealership experience problem but just couldn't make it happen fast enough. They started a handful of Genesis-only dealerships, but most are still your neighborhood Hyundai store with $90k GV80s parked next to $20k Accent.

I'm a long time Hyundai/Kia/Genesis driver, dating back to a '99 Sonata, so I've kinda just gotten used to avoiding visits to the dealership if at all possible... with any car make, actually. Complimentary maintenance?! Nuh... I'd rather lie on my own cardboard over my own driveway under my own car and get it done by my own two hands. Even with this G70, I still look at it as nothing more than buying a car... not paying to get pampered by a pompous purveyor.

But I understand not everybody look at it that way. As Genesis moves further upmarket, more customers are gonna demand experiences they've gotten used to with other luxury brands. Ironically, that's a turn-off for me. Upscale dealership experience cost money to build and invest. That means for those of us who don't give two sheets about that will still end up paying for it, as Genesis amortizes that investment into the MSRP of every car they sell.

That is already happening. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are now charging close to the same money as similar cars of other "established" brands. Gone are the days when Koreans cars were diamonds-in-the-dirt most buyers shy away from and I got to scoop up for 40 cents on the dollar. Many will rejoice. I OTOH will lament.

I suspect the pandemic made the already difficult task of getting dealers to improve nearly impossible. Dealers have had zero incentive to improve when they've been enjoying record profits and easy car sales. Any shortcoming in their service or product can simply be blamed on the pandemic and that's not much you can say in response. They're in the driver seat for now. Once they are again hungry they may start improving.

Historically one of the big draws to Genesis was value but with price increases this advantage may be shrinking. They can only blame poor service on growing pains for so long.

I'm with Volfy, never touching a dealership, so not happy to have paid over 2 grand more (MSRP) for my 2023 G70 than a 2022, especially since I don't plan to ever touch the dealer (I'm doing my own oil changes, and everything else). I also wasn't happy to find the same paint defect on my new car over the 2022 3.3T SP I had to return due to an engine issue. But it was my last option, so will just fix it myself with a white paint marker (or OEM paint pen). Cars have more defects now than ever, plus rampant inflation and personnel shortages, mean we have to be more tolerant of crap like that, or we'd be miserable. I settled with not having any mechanical issues, so crossing fingers here.

Finally, hope OP has better luck with BMW than I did, and don't regret having switched over :). Genesis is the top luxury brand for 2022 in the JD Powers survey (yeah, I know it's mostly crap, but still worth something), but the thing everybody should know is that it means little for the specific vehicle you want, since it could have horrible issues, while others be nearly perfect. So everybody should do their homework before buying, and avoid any new models like the plague. Ha ha. The G70 is an old platform, with an old engine, so hope that's good, but we'll see :).

I dreaded having to go to my local dealer in the Los Angeles area. It was night and day versus my Lexus experience. From the greeting, to the actual service, the attitude, etc. Hopefully Genesis continues to work on that aspect of its dealer network.

Horrible experiences at the dealership for me as well, and I am also looking to switch to another brand.

Agree completely about the dealership service. The so-called "Genesis Experience" is a ruse to get you to buy the car. I plan to dump my 2020 G70 3.3 soon not because I don't like the car but because I didn't intend to buy a Hyundai. And I hold a grudge, Genesis.

Exact same here. f$%k hyundai. Will never buy another one of their products. My Genesis experience has been so shitty.

It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating. At my deep south dealership in Tuscaloosa, if you are not a hardcore, maga, bible-thumping Baptist jesus freak then they won't even give you the time of day. First question I was asked when I brought the car in was 'what church do you attend"

I've had crappy service from all brands I've owned, which are most. But even without the service factor, it's hard to find a reliable vehicle anymore, especially in the COVID age. I can still do my own maintenance, but don't know for how long, with freaking cancer not leaving me alone. My plan is to find a good independent mechanic I can trust, and get the maintenance done there. I just don't trust local dealers after all the issues I've had with them. Or I'd have to stop caring about door dings, chips, door panel/sill scratches, seat leather scratches, wheel chips around lug nuts, etc. Not to mention they using freaking air tools to tighten lug nuts (like 200 ft/lbs), losing fasteners from belly pans, or just not reinstalling them at all, etc. Then stripping drain plug threads, not tightening them enough, or the myriad other stupid things we've all read on forums like this. Just getting coffee and/or cookies doesn't mean good service to me; I'd much prefer my car gets good service, even if I had to wait at a bus stop. Ha ha. Dealers need to offer good service in every respect, especially with 'premium' brands, since people here expect that (I honestly don't). Now add all the people quitting, and the supply chain issues, and I don't see this getting better anytime soon, guys.
Bottom line is I wouldn't sell a vehicle just for a service department, or you might buy a much worse vehicle, and visit that department a lot more often... and still not get it fixed right. Choose your poison. Ha ha. Hopefully things will get better in a few years; we'll see.

Agreed. Having just gone through a very difficult-to-diagnose warranty issue that required me to take my car in a half dozen times over the past year, I am more than qualified to say that the dealership experience in Las Vegas is unacceptable. They are so far from getting it right that it is laughable, except I'm not in the mood to laugh. I can only pray that it's just routine stuff moving forward, but I'll have to go through the Hyundai experience, so I'm not looking forward to even that.

Not long after I bought my G70, I had to take it in multiple times to get the now-well-known brake issue resolved. They got greasy smudges on my off-white interior carpeting and seat. I had to speak with the young service manager about it (among other things!) I asked why they didn't put down those heavy protective paper mats when working on the car. He said they didn't have any. I couldn't believe it. I told him every dealer or mechanic I've ever been to, including our local Ford dealer, did that as standard practice. The next time I was there he was proud to show me the protective mats he had ordered. It seemed like he thought he was doing it just for me. I give him props for at least listening and getting them, but sheesh, this is not anything new or special.

First of all, take care and get well, buddy. Second of all F the dealers. The syck. Totally agree. Every time my car came back from service a Tuscaloosa Hyundai Genesis, if was f**ked up in some way. Always. Dent, or scractch, or oil on the headliner, you name it. f$%k Genesis.

With my G37, which I bought used and not from the dealer where it was service, I and my car were treated like gold. Gad my own service advisor, who had their own office. Never had to stand in some giant line, or wait 2 hours behind 10 used beater elantra drivers. Man, if a service dept and mechanic are used to mostly working on beater elantras from 2010, it's not a good sign for your super expensive luxury sports sedan.

MY advice for ANYONE reading this thread is DO NOT BUY A GENESIS. Wait a few years until they have their own dealers WHO ARE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH HYUNDAI. Otherwise, with rare exceptions, you are going to get shite, BS service from a bunch of methhead toothless fuckwads.

I think more to the point would be, buy your Genesis and make sure you get it serviced from a dealer that has a good reputation. But then I could say that about any brand.

Sounds like your fantastic US dealership way of business is the problem...... LOL

Well, I sold my car, Just got sick of Genesis, and that car in particular. Between the sunroof, the headliner, all the flat tires from potholes, dented and replaced wheels, crazy expensive euro brakes pads that you have to sacrifice animals and use a wizard to find, the spark plugs at 40k., and just the gas, I just sick of it. I must bought 3.5k worth of tires and wheels during it's tenure, not kidding, those summers don't last if you drive a lot. But anyway, off into the sunset I ride in a new car with zero issues. fingers crossed. Good luck to you all. And hey, if somebody shows up with a used red 2019 3.3t Elite G70 with all the same issues, you'll know it's back! Like a zombie.

I must bought 3.5k worth of tires and wheels...
There are more than one way to deal with any issue. So far, between the Stinger and G70, I've bought 2 sets of Enkei TFR rims, 2 sets of performance all-season tires, plus 1 set of TW200 AutoX tires, and I haven't spent anywhere close to that much. I took off the OEM 19" wheels/tires even before I left the dealer parking lot and sold them for $1500 soon after. That money almost exactly paid for Enkei TFR 18x8.5's and tires they replace, so basically no-cost exchange. Genesis does not own a monopoly on low profile tires and the associated damage risks. Many of the Euro and Japanese competitors have similar wheel/tire setup, if not even worse. As long as folks keep liking the donk look, car mfrs are gonna keep pumping out big heavy-ass rims and rubber band tires.

The Brembo brake pad issue, however, is legit. Genesis/Kia continue to shoot themselves in the foot by not addressing this problem properly. That said, there are ways to mitigate this issue without spending crazy money on the EuroSport pads. While I'm glad our 6MT G70 came with those, I'm not buying them when it comes time to replace. There is a long thread here on this issue, and folks have found good alternatives, depending on your preference and usage. Because of the crossover with Stinger, aftermarket support for G70 is excellent.

Spark plugs?! I just bought 1-higher heat range NGK plugs that work better with JB4. About $14/plug. Same heat range replacements are about the same cost. Not sure what the problem is.

Anyhow, I hope you have better luck with your new steed.
