Front Daytime Running Lights/Turn Signal Bulbs Keeps Burning Out

Both my DRL/Front Turn Signal Bulbs keep burning out. I’ve read it’s an issue specific with the 2015 Genesis but has anyone come up with a solution to not have to replace them every 3-4 months?

Same with my 2015. Was replacing the amber bulbs every 6-12 months! The driver side is easy enough, but the passenger side is more a PITA since you gotta move the air intake out of the way. It's definitely heat related since those amber bulbs are meant to be turn signals, not DRLs. Mine would fail most often in the summer, but then would last through the winter being cold outside ambient. What annoys me the most is that EVERY other light on this friggin car is LED or HID except for these!

I tried a few different LED amber bulbs, but got the fast blinker warning which annoys the crap out of me. I didn't really want to splice in load resistors so I actually just manually turn my lights on/off. I give 2 craps about DRLs anyway.

Ya same here! If you do run the normal bulbs you also run a risk of frying the socket. I believe the 1157 bulbs will last a bit longer slightly dimmer but you can't really tell. It wasnt that hard splicing in the resistors just a tight space. A sound shop would be able to do it for cheap I'd imagine.

You can use 1157 LED Decoder Light Warning Inline Load Resistor Socket to prevent hyperflash, they are plug & play.

I'm lucky that I didnt need resistors, but I looked up the above and they look promising and inexpensive

What style turn signal bulbs are you using?

Just installed these bulbs I found on Amazon today as I had a similar issue. My front passenger bulb went out, and seeing it’s a similar issue I wanted to see if I could find an LED alternative.

These ones have a resistor built in so they don’t hyper flash, and have switchback functionality (which I tested and it worked), so they stay white when they’re not blinking, and turn amber when flashing.

Initially it hyper flashed but when I tried reinstalling them with the turn signal on, it picked up and started blinking regularly.

So how difficult is it to replace these bulbs? My right turn signal bulb burned out over a month ago. I called the local (only) dealer and they gave me an appointment in mid-December! The next day, the left turn signal bulb burned out.

Its not hard you have to remove the braces and the air box it's only a couple of bolts. The hardest part is getting your hand in the small space. If you have the 5.0 you'll have to get both the air boxes out. I believe you can also remove the wheel liner to get at them but they are expensive and could get damaged easily. If you are near Pennsylvania I could lend a hand!

I have a 5.0, and big hands. I'll be traveling a lot between now and December, so maybe I'll just suffer through it...

I see it's a pita but totally do able. It took me less than a hr. They'll even do it for you at any garage it's not hard at all. Again if you decide to stay with the non led bulbs go down to a 1157 yellow bulb. They last a bit longer or don't use the auto headlight feature.

If you use the incandescent bulbs do not touch them bare handed, use a thin glove to extend bulb life. Hyundai intended to use an LED bulb for this but the bulb was never developed.

You can probably change both V8 sides in 30 to 40 minutes after the first time. Also need to clean up the socket contacts with fine sandpiper as the sockets do take a beating from heat.

No way it'll take you anywhere close to a couple hours, even the first time. 30-40 minutes at most. It's very simple even on the 5.0

So an update on my situation. The TLDR is that the dealer told me that "the tech" said that they'd have to remove the front bumper to replace the lights, and it would take 2.5 hours, and would thus be over $300 for labor. I politely declined their offer.

Now the long version

My appointment, made in mid-September was for Dec 15. I was out of town last week and got home LATE Thursday night. Had the cab follow me to the dealer to drop off the car (around 1am). Got a text on Friday morning telling me that they had the car and would do the lights and change the oil. As an aside, I'd given them that info when I made the appointment. I also wrote it on the key envelope. I had a "situation" earlier this year where they only did what I wrote on the envelope, NOT what was in the system. Around 3:30pm, I still haven't heard from them. So I call. They tell me that "the guy" wanted to talk with me directly and would call me back later. Around 5pm, I make 3-4 calls before someone finally picks up. It's "the guy" and he apologized and said they were too busy to get to my car that day. Two techs had quit that week, and someone was out with COVID. I gave a mild rant that the LEAST they could have done was let me know there was going to be an issue before I did all of that running around to get them my car. "The guy" said I could come pick it up and then bring it back in the morning. This was dumb for all of the obvious reasons, plus a few less obvious ones.

Anyway, the next day, they call me around 9am. I missed the call (it was a Saturday work day...yay!) and called back around noon. Still had to call a few times to get through, but "the guy" said they'd changed the oil, but his tech said it would take about 2.5 hours to replace the bulbs because they were very hard to reach for some reason, etc. I pointed out that AndyJ said that *I* could do it in an hour at home, while they have a whole shop and all of the tools, etc. Bulbs were going to be about $50, and labor was going to be around $300. I passed. Also, I'm PROBABLY trading it in for a GV60 next month, so it's probably cheaper just to trade in the car with bad blinkers.

I had a little bit of a problem changing out my 1st ones as it was a new process for me - having to re-pin the connector on one side and my hands were just a tad too large. Got a friend of mine with smaller hands to do it the next time after a burnout at 2 years or so and it took probably 15 mins

$350 and 2.5 hours is ridicous to replace the turn signal bulbs. Good decision to pass on that.
