If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rear end bump at low speed. Some of trunk functions not working anymore, specifically the "lock and close trunk" button. Regular close trunk works fine. When put car in reverse, get display indicating trunk/rear parking issue. Just wondering/hoping that there might be a "magic reset" that might eliminate the warnings (assuming there is really no damage, and something just got tripped when bumped). I found a "recalibrate" procedure online, but a bit hesitant to try it (it's my husband's car and I don't want to mess it up).

Visited a body shop that did some previous work, he saying sensors may be damaged, will have to tear apart and looking at $3-4k. Before we decide whether to deal with the expense (other driver insurance unclear/perhaps non-existent), hoping for some help here.

Any insight/ideas are appreciated.

Sounds like a rear sensor (or two) and the rear antenna for the smart key may be damaged. Lock the car. With your smart key in hand, does pressing the button on the trunk open it? If not, the receiver was probably damaged.

Hi, thanks, the FOB DOES open the trunk. the body guy said the bump could have damaged sensors inside the rear bumper. The other symptom seems to be no warnings when backing up and getting too close (again sensor dependent).

No, not talking about using the fob part of the smart key, that goes to a different antenna.

There isn't a button on the outside of the trunk to open it. The smart key function (where the trunk opens automatically if you are standing behind the trunk) is no longer working (but we know this is a function that is selectively on/off, it was ON before the rear bump). I guess I am confused about the Smart Key vs. FOB - sorry

This is a 2015/2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan? Then, yes there is a button on the outside of the trunk to open it. It's right by the rearview camera.

yes, is 2015 Genesis sedan. I looked and think I found outside button, tried to push (it seems to be wide soft black plastic?), but nothing happened. I might have heard some beeps when I tried this, but like I said, trunk did not open

Opens from the remote but not from the button on the trunk = smart key receiver in the back (behind the bumper cover, I think) was damaged.

Thanks, I did find somewhere on the web this procedure to "re-calibrate", is it worth a try?

1. Press trunk inner switch
2. Press trunk outside switch at the same time
3. Hold for 3 seconds it buzzes once
4. Close trunk manually
5. try the outside switch again to open, a buzzer will sound saying recalibration complete.

I guess I am just hoping that when we got bumped, maybe nothing damaged, but put things in a weird state. The above was quoted from a service manual. We're just not sure that this minor inconvenience is worth $1-2k figuring the guy who hit us may not have insurance. Thanks for trying to help me.

I have done that recalibrate procedure before. It is useful when the trunk isn't opening or closing correctly. To me, it does not fit with your symptoms at all. You trunk opens correctly from the remote, and closes correctly from the close switch. The recalibrate will do nothing to make the outside switch or the lock switch work. All that said, you can try it to satisfy yourself on it. I don't think you will do any harm.
