2025 GV80 Battery/trickle charger/connection points

Here I go again.
What type of battery does the 2025 GV80 have?
What is the recommended battery trickle charger?
Where, exactly, are the under hood trickle charger connections?

I’m on vacation about 900 miles from the car and I just received the dreaded battery low state message. This surprised me a bit as I drove the car four days ago.
I did manage to remotely unlock the doors—the car is in a gated area and it is in a locked and alarmed garage.

AGM (with reversed terminals which makes it difficult to source)

Any smart charger (not a trickle charger) that has a dedicated AGM setting (I personally use a NOCO Genius 5)

Look on the rear passenger side corner of the engine bay and you will see a removable panel with a - (minus sign) on it. Under that cover is a negative post used for jumping or charging. Once you know where it is you can sneak a charger clamp in without removing the cover and wearing out the plastic clips. In the front passenger corner there is a roughly triangular fuse box cover with a red + (positive symbol) on the cover. Remove the cover and directly under that symbol is a small post with some red paint on it. That is the positive terminal. If you don't wait until the car "goes to sleep" about five minutes after shutting it off you might hear a relay click that sounds an awful lot like a spark when you turn on the charger. That's normal but I prefer to wait until the systems power down.

Also, every time you connect to your GV80 remotely it powers up most of the vehicle systems then waits for a command, which takes a considerable amount of power.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that message. We regularly leave ours for a week or two and have only received that message once on day 15 of a trip. When we returned on day 17 it only took about an hour on the maintainer to bring it back to full charge (which is only around 80/85% on the connected services monitor for ours. Other see higher and lower) never checked to see what the app read when it sent the message but it must not have been that low. Maybe someone else know that answer.

An extension cable I bought from NOCO is directly connected with eyelets to the battery in back as recommended by my service manager, and the extension is hidden away in a storage compartment when the charger isn't being used. We had no problems starting the car after it sat for 2 weeks in an airport parking lot.

May I ask if you used the "NOCO GC002 X-Connect M6 Eyelet Terminal Accessory" or the "NOCO GC008 X-Connect M10 XL Eyelet Terminal Accessory"? I presume the one you used will also fit the GV80.

The extension I mentioned earlier is the GC004X-Connect 10' Extension Cable.

I took a long trip, around 19 days. Before I left, I charged the battery for 24 hours. I was ready for battery issues with a charger, battery jumper and a long extension cord. About 8 days in I got the low battery message. When I got to the car, it started right up.
If I had known that I would be constantly worrying if my battery would go dead if the car sat for a while, I never would have purchased it. This is just wrong. My wife has a 7 year old BMW with the original battery and I have no worries about a dead battery even is it sat for two months.
I am in my 70's and have owned a lot of cars. I never had to worry about my battery until I got this one.

If I had known that I would be constantly worrying if my battery would go dead if the car sat for a while, I never would have purchased it. This is just wrong. My wife has a 7 year old BMW with the original battery and I have no worries about a dead battery even is it sat for two months.

Yeah, the newer the luxury car (most any brand), the more these cars are doing behind the scenes, via proximity, or OTA. They need a way to disable the constant query for the prox key like the GX550 does (via Carista® or dealer programming) which might help significantly. I wish the Carista® was compatible with the Genesis.

Experiencing a weird issue. I bought a GC002 and connected it to the battery in the rear of the vehicle last night. Both eyelets connected to the small nuts adjacent to the battery posts. Was able to run the NOCO Genius10 cable out under the rear hatch so the hatch fully closed but now I seem to have a problem. Despite the car being fully closed, the battery display (via connected services website) show it was draining hour by hour. I Lost like 15% over 4 hours or so. My charger was showing a proper connection (polarity) and showed it was charging successfully. The charger showed it increase battery charge over time and was near 100% but the connected services website showed a depleting state of charge. Got down to 45%, when starting at ~ 60%. I wondered if when removing the small screws on the terminals if the battery got disconnected briedfly so it was displaying eronious information. I'll try again tonight I guess and see what happens. I'm no EE but this has me a bit stumpoed unless its just a one time anomaly. Any feedback appreciated!

In my car, If I have the charger on it, the battery % will not update. Once it is disconnected and I start the car and turn it off, it will update.

Awesome, thanks! I just put it back on the charger with a SOC of 64%. We'll see what happens. Bringing it in tomorrow for a ceramic coating so the battery should update then.

The pigtails can be left attached to the positive terminal on the fuse block and the negative post on the passenger side of the engine bay. If you run them back to the base of the windshield near the passenger side wiper, it's easy to connect the cables to the maintainer without even opening the hood. Attached are pictures I posted a few years ago to illustrate.

The GV70 has a concealed bin with hinged door in the cargo deck to store a retractable cargo cover when not in use. I fed the NOCO cables from the battery to the underside of this bin and through the opening of a plastic access panel on the bottom. I drilled a small hole at the edge of the access panel just big enough for the cable itself, then reattached the panel. All of the excess cable is stored in this bin and no cables are visible.

To use the charger, open the hatch, then the hinged door of the bin and pull out most of the cable. Lay the cable flat at the weatherstripping before closing the hatch. Outside the car, connect that cable to the charger, plug in power to the charger, and select AGM. When it's done, return the cable to the storage bin.

I used exactly the same method as described in my post above (#16) on my sister-in-law's GV70. There is no need to attach the leads to the battery. With the method I describe, just attaching the quick connect from the battery maintainer is all that's needed. No opening the hood, hatch or anything else.
