If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone tried using an Ipod nano with the Apple cable to interface with your Genny via USB?

I tried mine today and it seems like the music folders are all out of order and the initial artist/song info is just mixed up letters.mp3?? I called the dealer and they said I could use the Apple cable and it should work fine. Does anybody know if you have to buy the Hyundai cable for an Ipod to make it work and read correctly??

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I just wanted to update and say I was playin around with the info button on the radio and after pushing it about 4 times it will then give the artist name and song name. But on the "home" screen it will just list folder # and then underneath the folder number it will have musical notes and say ascff.MP3 . Each song has a different set of letters and .MP3 . I think I will go to the dealer and buy the Hyundai Ipod cable and see if that fixes the issue. I read in the owners manual to NOT use the Apple supplied USB cable as it may cause issues with operation.

Interesting... I never even thought about using a standard iPod cable, in part because my car came with Hyundai's cable thrown in. (I think that it should be standard anyway.)

Please let us know if the Hyundai cable takes care of your problems. If it doesn't, I wonder if there's something different about the nano.

I think the OP is seeing the iPod in "disk mode" and is browsing the file/folder structure of the iPod. It isn't recognizing the car as a "Controller" but rather as a computer and mounting it as a disk drive...

Sounds right to me Back... I dunno though. Mine came w/my car and I haven't looked back. What I do find annoying about the Hyundai OEM Cable is that if i leave the ipod in the upper armrest, the cable has to be bent at a weird angle to fit through the hole, so I'm gonna need to buy a new one eventually :(

Yep, that's the only piece of the car I've had to replace. But as I understand it, there have been many cable "failures" since '08 so maybe you won't have to pay(?). When mine stopped working, the cables were on backorder so the GM of the dealership gave me his (at no charge). Working fine for over a year now.

Thanks Capo, Back and Waveman! Capo you would be correct. Because the Apple cable only incorporates the USB and not the jack the radio gets jumbled information on files and folders and sees it as a disk (or something thereof) only. They told me this at the dealer parts dept.. They knew exactly what I was talking about.

I did purchase the cable today at $37 and some change, plugged it in and all the correct information loaded and it works great. I wish mine came with my car but the salesman said it did not? Hmmmmmm! Thanks everyone for the information and help! I'm really starting to love this site!

Glad you got it working.

I think that the cable ought to just come with the car. I've had mine only a couple of weeks, and the connector already tends to come loose from the iPod. I've decided to just keep the iPod in the car at all times, except when I'm updating it in iTunes.

Great advice, Thanks! I did notice that may be an issue. I hesitate leaving my Ipod in the car because of the extreme temperatures in SD. Hopefully my connector holds out through the winter then I will leave it in the car to save wear and tear on it.

It sounds like some people got the cable with their car, so maybe if you bought the top of the line or maybe at least tech package, it came with??. I settled for the base model so maybe thats why mine wasn't included.

I just said that the deal had to include the cable, wheel locks, and trunk liner. :)

iPods, especially ones without mechanical drives, might not fare too badly in cold temperatures, though I understand your reluctance to keep yours in the car. I keep my iPod Touch in a case in the upper compartment in the center armrest, but it usually doesn't get too cold here during the day, and the car is garaged at night.
