  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've had my 2011 4.6 Genesis for 7 months and have about 10K miles on it. After sitting in my Garage for a couple days and on a cold (20 Degree) morning. I started it up and the Car Engine was making a rattle and shaking the car. The yellow Engine light was also flashing. I let it run, thinking it would smooth out. After about 45 seconds the engine started running smooth and the check engine light went out. I have had the car in plenty of below zero weather and it never did that before. It seemed like it was not getting oil to all parts of the engine.
Anyone else have this happen or know what was going on?

Same thing happened on mine a couple of weeks ago when I started the car after leaving it parked for quite a few days.
Mine lasted for 2 or 3 ignition cycles. Severe vibration, blinking engine light to solid engine light.
5 minutes later, everything went back to normal, but the check engine light stayed on.

Next day, service technician pulled the code, "Cyl-2 misfire".
Had the ECU reflashed, and everything's good now. Hope it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for the replies. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow and they are going to 'check the malfunction code'. I'll post the results here tomorrow.

Please let us know how it goes. I'm interested in knowing what DTC history is stored.
Thanks,

Dan

Just got back from the dealer and they could not find any codes. Maybe I got some condensation in the gas tank?? Who knows. At least I got a free car wash!:)

Quick question:
When you pulled the car into the garage (prior to the 2 days between starts), was it after a normal drive or from having been in the driveway?

I ask because I think I recall a poster with the same symptoms who actually caused his own misfire by not allowing adequate warmup between start and stop. In other words, he started the car when cold, drove 4 or 5 feet and turned off the car.

That's exactly what I did! -- Started the car when cold. Pulled it into the garage about 20 feet and shut it off. I think you nailed it!

Don't have time to search the threads now, but basically it was trapped fuel vapors or unburned fuel... Something like that.
One reason to never drive off until the car drops from fast idle at start up, or turn car off during it.
If only I could teach my wife that...

Very strong fuel vapor oder inside and out when parked in garage after being driven in 94 degree weather. Quite dangerous!!! The vapor is so strong it penatrates the whole house. Dealer has no clue. The car is a 2011 4.6 My 2010 did the same thing.

This symptom brings the EGR system under suspect also. Wonder if the dealer explored that possibility.
