If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Taking the new R-Spec to the dealership this week for warranty work. Power steering pump is making a whinning noise when turning. Yes the fluid level is in check and good. I have 960 miles on it. Will let everyone know how it turns out.

After a few thousand miles our previous car, a 2004 Acura TSX, had to have a new ps pump; never needed another one and we sold the car after 239,000 miles. So don't let a bad pump spoil your enjoyment of the car. Sometimes stuff slips through quality control.

An air leak through the gasket on the intake side of the pump will cause it to cavitate, making noise. If you see bubbles in the fluid resivoir while it's running, there's your sign.

Interesting that Newman's R-spec also had a fix on his PS pump gasket.

Actually, my repairs were for a valve cover gasket and a fuel pump o-ring. That said, it is still interesting to note so many gasket issues on this car.

I think though, that we have to bear in mind that A) this is a brand new engine even if it is in the same family as the 4.6 and B) we are active participants in an online community that shares anything and everything of note about our vehicles. We cannot know the reliability and/or build quality of these engines going solely on what we experience individually or in our self-selected online group. That said, I fully intend to continue sharing with you all and hope that you do the same!

Cheers,
Newman

So I finally got it to the shop this past Monday. Pick it up tomorrow. Power steering pump bad. They informed after having the car all week that the pump will have to be ordered and will take another week to come in. Once it arrives they will schedule me another appointment to replace it. Going to do the ole 3 strikes and your out with this one. This is number one! I will keep all posted..

For me, this would be strike three for the dealer. My dealer would have had an answer on day one and the pump ordered same day.

Sounds like it sat for the week until a tech could get to it. When they finally did, the bad news was delivered!

Agreed- it shouldn't have taken a week to diagnose this. Hyundai North America should know about this kind of treatment. They need to know either:
  1. Their dealer service network needs to do a better job of servicing premium customers
  2. They need to move the Genesis sedan and Equus to their own brand altogether

Pick one.

Based on the ad campaign for the Equus now running in the Wall St. Journal, I don't think Hyundai is planning on moving toward separating the brands any time soon. Rather, they will contiue their stratey of utilizing the Equus and Genesis as halo cars. The current full-page ad for the Equus is illustrated with a beauty shot of the car shot from the right rear quarter. You clearly see the flying H but the Equus logo is barely visible...being on the left hand side of the rear of the car. This staging is not accidental but carefully thought out. The ad is signed with a large Hyundai logo. The only place the word Equus appears is in the body of the copy. This is clearly a Hyundai ad....presenting the Equus as another of its offerings.

My strike 3 works a little different. 3 service visits for warranty issues before I reach 12000 miles and I will be saying bye to the Genie..;)

Exactly.. But they did call me today and say that the pump came in and could install it Monday if I let them keep it over the weekend. They also graciously gave my wife a nice new Santa Fe (first impression junk) to drive this weekend.. I will say this though. The service writer is one of the nicest guys that I have ever met. When we went to pick up the loaner today he had my R-Spec parked inside the shop and covered. Never seen that one before. :)

For at least the last 20 years when I take a new car to a dealer for service or repair(other than accident damage) and they tell me that it will take a day or more, I then say " What kind of loaner do you have for me today?" , never been turned down which includes Ford, Mazda, Acura and Hyundai dealers. You have to let dealers know what you expect and be firm about it.

Hmmm... Well at the very least they could do what Ford did with SVT (I am a former SVT "Cobra" owner). They could allow only certain premium dealerships qualified to sell (service?) the Genesis/Equus.

In any case, on behalf of the OP, I'm glad the part will be there and installed by Monday.

According to my dealer, this is exactly what Hyundai is doing. My dealer (Ourisman in Laurel, MD) is a dual facility with Mazda, and Hyundai will not authorize them to sell Equus until they either split off the Mazda operation or set up a separate Hyundai operation.

If you use the dealer locator on the Hyundai web site, it shows which dealers are "authorized Equus dealers".

Disagreed. The cost of a new dealer network would raise the price of the Gen and Horse possibly negating the "value" aspect. If you're so afraid to rub elbows with the lowly Sonata drivers you probably should be driving something else.

WTF are you talking about??? What a goofy comment!!!

I would like to see Genesis owners get the same treatment as Equus owners.

BTW I love my car.

Sonata? I'm not so worried about them, but Elantra??? That could be another matter altogether...

Why should lowly Genesis drivers get Equus treatment? Why should Equus drivers have to rub elbows with the likes of you?

And that's my point. "WTF" do the demands for a different class of service/treatment end? How superior does someone get to feel for $40K? $55K?
I say let the BMW, Mercedes drivers feel superior if they need that. We should be appreciating the value of being in or near their class at a MUCH lower price point.
BTW, I loved my Genesis too.
