  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Expert Gurus,

I'm new to the group and live in Canada. I have a question; I need your help determining the type of engine oil for my GV80 3.5L
According to the owner's manual, it requires 0W-30 with API SN plus/SP or ILSAC GF-6. I have read that API SN Plus is an interim, supplemental specification designed to provide additional protection against Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) in turbocharged gasoline direct-injection (TGDI) engines. I looked for all the description labels for Penzoil, Quaker State, and Castrol oil, but they all don't have the API SN Plus, except for MOBIL 1 Advance Fuel Economy Fully Synthetic.
Is it safe to use Mobil 1, or should I follow the recommended oil in the owner's manual, which is the Quaker State, even though there is no API SN PLUS?

It is my understanding that the newest standard GF-6A oils are backward compatible with GF-6 oils and have replaced or will be replacing them. So any 0W-30 oil marked with the GF-6A logo should be acceptable. That includes Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy Full Synthetic Motor Oil 0W-30.
