If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Woke up this morning and when to put something in the back seat. when I closed the driver side passenger door, i let it swing shut softly expecting the soft close feature to kick in. The door bounced back a bit and came set open. I had to slam it a bit to get it to close. Went to the passenger side to see if i could see any difference in the latch, but that side had the same problem. Im wondering if anyone has seen an issue with the soft close not working (which is what I assume is going on). Any comments or suggestions are appreciated

Start by checking for a blown fuse somewhere. Next, try a few start / stop cycles and let it sit overnight. It might be just a weird software glitch (not like similar anomalies haven't occurred with these complex computer-controlled vehicles). If that doesn't fix it, get an appointment at a dealership.

Thanks for the response. I dont think its a fuse, but Im still gonna test it. I initially had the same thought since it was both sides. As it turns out, the fuses that control the latches are right side/left side, not front/back. If it was the fuse(s) the fronts would be having the same problem. Im still gonna test them when i get a chance. I did recently have a software upgrade, so maybe thats the issue

2 new fuses and same issue. i was able to lift both doors up to get a smoother close and when I did that the soft close feature kicked it. this is looking now like maybe the doors sagged but I just dont know how that would be possible

Interesting. Did the soft-close feature continue to work after you got it to "kick in"? If so, then there must have been some sensor stuck in an undefined state that confused the soft-close controller. Did it "kick in" on both sides? It would be very odd that the same anomaly occurred on opposite sides of the vehicle and was caused by door sag. I suppose it could be a sensor alignment that shifted (I have no idea how it detects a door partially shut that needs the soft-close help......so speculating here). But again, two sensors on opposite sides that go AWOL at the same time? Unlikely.

I dont think the soft close ever stopped working. I think the doors sagged enough that the posts arent hitting the latch in the right spot. if slam the door, it shuts alright....not slam hard, but how you would an old truck. if i shut it gently, it stops at the post. I can push relatively hard to get it to latch, but if i lift up from the bottom of the door and push in at the same time, i can feel the soft close kick in.....so at this point, i think its some kind of alignment issue

If the panels of the door and surrounding parts appear properly aligned, then it is unlikely the doors are sagging. You may find that adjusting the striker plate on each side (where the door locks onto the U-shaped catch on the rear of the door frame) need adjusting. The dealer can certainly do that, although it's a simple enough fix if you have the correct bit to fit the bolts attaching the striker plates. Mark the current position, then loosen the bolts, knock the plate down a bit (which would have the same alignment effect as lifting the door) and retighten the bolts. I did that with my front driver's door when I noticed that the alignment was not quite right (even though in my case it did not affect the soft door closing mechanism). I'm just an old retired lawyer, so it's not rocket science.

Thanks for the reply. Id be curious though, if the doors arent sagging and certainly the posts havent both moved on their own, they how could they become misaligned. Im wondering if maybe something larger with the car....like the chassis or something

That is a good question. In my case, I could see that the edge of the door when closed was protruding slightly from the fixed body panels; so I knocked the striker plate in a bit which corrected the misalignment. If there is no misalignment in your case, you have to wonder what changed to cause the problem.

Over time (esp 4+ years if yours and OPs are 2021 GV80s), and all the intervening bumps and pot holes, things will sag (like bodies!). If they spec'd the tolerances too closely, then it would not take much to get the door and the plate/sensors enough out of alignment to cause problems. Guess they need to reconsider the design and/or more demanding and long term testing to account for such wear and tear. Hate to be pessimistic and it is not specific to Genesis, but I have wondered for some time now, with all the new gadgets, bells and whistles on these high tech cars (and appliances, etc.) 10 years from now are we going to be facing huge repair bills and/or giant tech grave yards where otherwise functioning products go to die for want of a "nail or horseshoe". I love my GV80 but it has taught me that next time I will give up a bunch of "nice to have" features for more simplicity and long term peace of mind.
