  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I've wired up my subwoofers in my 2017 G80, and initially I was going to tap into the accessory wire on the factory amp to use as a signal. So, I got to removing the interior lining in the trunk. I quickly stopped, however, when I attempted to pull one of those plastic rivets out with a panel popper, and it just snapped the head off.

I didn't want to break anything else, and I couldn't find too much online, so I figured I'd just come in here to be extra safe.

I only need to peel down enough of it to get to the amp, not remove the whole thing.
What is the proper way to remove these liners? Is there some secret, or will I have to sacrifice and replace these cruddy plastic rivets?

Most plastic rivets are available from the long South American river. Hyundai uses a few different types, but my favorite style is the one that appears to be a Philips head bolt. Most of these can be unscrewed halfway up and then popped out with the proper twin blade clip removal tool. Some of the clips will have a single 3mm post in them. They are removed by pushing the post in before the blades are slid under the plastic rim. You will see these on the trunk swing arm covers.

Thank you so much for the reply. I've unfortunately returned the car to the dealership I'd bought it from just a week prior (the lower control arms needed replacing, which is something I would've fixed myself, but the transmission leak was another story, mostly due to a lack of time and tools).

While I had it, it was the best car I've owned and one of the best I've driven, and it pains me greatly to walk away from it.
