mpeg4s

Just tried to copy my itunes library on to a USB drive but it won't work in my Genesis. It is a FAT32 formatted USB, but I am wondering if it is because all of the files are "MPEG-4"s? If so, what type of file do I need to convert them to with the least loss of sound quality?
