  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Like most of you, I've seen "tests" of the Gen 2 5.0 with 0-60mph in the 5.0 - 5.1 second range and 1/4 times hovering around 13.5 seconds.

My question is, can anyone confirm some personal results they have had? I'm very curious if the reviews from places like C & D and Motor Trend made runs with the traction and stability controls off, used the old-fashioned launch control {power braked}, used the manual shift options, etc., or just floored it in all automatic modes.

If I can get to a drag strip I would like the make the most of my runs by educating myself from the previous results of others. I see no reason to run the car other than stock, and just use tweaks built-in to the standard set up.

Car and Driver tested the 2015 by only flooring it from a stand still and logged a 0-60mph of 5 seconds flat at 13.6 1/4 mile. Motor Trend does a true 0-60 run and use some algorithm to create an universal average 0-60 for the car nation-wide that accounts for changes like elevation and temperature and gave the 2015 Genesis 5.0 a 5.2 second 0-60mph rating. Hence why Car and Driver performance numbers usually quicker than Motor Trend.

I like Car and Driver test because they just list what a car does and the test sheet that includes detailed information such as how they did the test without trying to create an average by playing with the numbers. For example , C&D stated on the 2015 Genesis test sheet that they did not torque brake the engine for the test.

I have not actually tested my own car at a track to verify what the magazine states it can do.

Note: It seems that C&D removed the downloadable test sheet for the 2015 5.0 model on their website. So that information is gone it seems unless you have a old magazine with the 2015 Genesis 5.0 test sheet.

I'm really surprised by the lack of specific information regarding performance by actual owners. All I can add is that my particular 5.0 model can break 5 seconds, but it requires some diligent work with the throttle. I've heard that most of the "reviews" stomp it to the floor and record the number. The drive by wire system doesn't seem to give the best performance that way. I've found increasing pedal with rpms but never "flooring" it as it changes gears gives the best time. I've just used a standard stopwatch but 4.8 is possible. I'm about 800 feet above sea level, traction control off, sport mode, and all the planets are aligned, but I still have to modulate the pedal. Not sure I'll ever run the 1/4 mile though.
Not a judgment about anyone, but it seems we'll discuss a K&N filter for days yet performance data for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times seems to fall back on car reviewers, not owners of the Gen2 5.0.

I recorded my 2015 5.0 acceleration run with a Torque GPS measuring tool and my best time was a 0-60mph of 4.6 seconds with K&N air filters installed. I performed the run on a fairly level road with the car set to ECO mode. My other attempts was slower (4.9-5.0 seconds)in sport mode with and without the Sprint Booster unit I have installed activated. However, I did floor the gas pedal on each run except the ECO mode runs in which I just pressed the pedal about 3/4 of the way. The Genesis seems to launch better in ECO mode for whatever reason.

I will attempt to do some runs in sport mode without flooring the gas pedal when I find an area that is not populated with police patrols. My old testing areas are having more police staking them out now, so I can not just do a 0-60 runs like before until they move on to other areas.

Note: Most Torque users complain that the Torque app measure slower times than what their cars perform at a drag track, so my 5.0 my actually be quicker than 4.6 seconds.

Here is my last 0-60 GPS test performed with a Torqe Pro app. Not a perfect run like on a perfectly leveled drag strip or track, but this data is all I have to show and reflect how my car performs on a actual road that I use to compete against other sprited drivers for merging rights.:)

Thanks for the info. I'd be very satisfied with 4.6 second 0-60. For such a large, heavy car that's impressive. It should never be considered a sports car but, then again, not many sports cars have the Genesis' kind of comfort. It's really a great all-around platform.

I’d be satisfied with 5.0, 5.2 or whatever, in all honesty. I love the car and whether it’s .2 faster or slower really has no impact in my day-to-day driving experience. If it’s about pride of ownership based upon ‘blowing the other guy away from a stoplight’ then yeah, I suppose one can keep tweaking away until the a few milliseconds are shaved off the 0-60 times. One is probably better off grabbing the new mid-engined Corvette to suit that purpose.

I'm pleased with the 5.0's punch... GTIs, Si's, WRX's, & pre - Coyote Mustang GT's are less so when they get blown off by "a grandpa" car.

LOL. I love the Genesis overall from the exterior styling to the performance ability. This large land boat actually handles like a sporty mid-sized sedan and is as quick as a true muscle car(0-60mph in less than 5 seconds). Furthermore, it very comfortable to drive for a long period of time which most sports cars are not.

But I do admit that I like to dust off a Mustang or BMW 335 every now and then when they try to out merge me on the off ramp. This large car is very very quick with a few tweaks.:)

Tell me about it. 4.6 seconds 0-60mph (even 5.0 seconds) is very very very fast for any car let alone a massive luxury sedan like the Genesis. The 5.0 V8 is a sleeper motor no doubt.

The Genesis take up the same space as my 2006 Cadillac Escalade(length and width) in the garage except that it is lower to the ground. This is a large car which is surprisingly very nimble and quick for it size.
