  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently acquired a really cool tool/toy.
It is a PLC devices Kiwi bluetooth OBD2 connector that - with an app - can be used with an android, and probaly other smartphones.
We the input of certain data, like weight, max rpm, engine displacement, it will also calculate torque and HP.
Another cool feature is 0-60 mph, 0-100 kph, and 1/4 mile stats
I've haven't tried too many times yet, but enough to wonder: how do ai arrive at the advertised time to go from 0 to 60 mph?
So far, the best time I have gotten is 6.5 sec for 0-60 mph. Hmmmm......
It has gotten better, so I'm wondering if the ECU /tranny computer learn and adapt to the aggressive driving style, but still!

Any ideas?

I have a 4.6 sedan with K&N filter and Borla catback. I used automatic shifting. I have tried ESC/no ESC (non modded) as well.

When people talk about how fast their car is, (from 0 to 60) I normally say, "OK, you want to race - we will start off at this stop light, and the first one to Los Angeles wins".

I've been saying this for many years while riding my Gold Wing and talking with guys on Crotch Rockets, and I still say it to guys with "fast cars".

how does that relate to me testing my vehicle with a new toy - and comparing it with what the manufacturer claims it can do?

If I understand you correctly, GPS is involved. which has an intentional offset of 1.2 sec for HLS reasons. I learned that bit of info when I was in the Army.

That is interesting to know, thanks.
I'm not sure exactly what is used to calculate. It uses data from the OBDII connection, so it could be using the velocity reading it gets from the ECU.
It does use GPS. The app can show a map of your "course", overlaying a google earth map, I think. All the metrics collected while running can be compiled and saved/sent in report format, such as csv. I have yet to play with that functionality.

The intentional GPS timing offset (SA error) had an effect only on the positional accuracy of a non-goverment receiver. The military, partly at the request of the FAA and partly in response to the lack of available mil spec receivers during GWI, actually suspended SA error. Right now, your civilian receiver gets as accurate a signal as a military receiver.

The time data available to civilian users is accurate to within 320 nanoseconds (ignoring atmoshere induced errors). That does not mean that your civilian device is equiped to display time to that fidelity, however. Garmin promotes a 1 second fidelity to GPS time on display, but complete fidelty to GPS time for computations. For time to speed calculations, the factor limiting the accuracy of the reported results will depend on the positional accuracy of the unit rather than the accuracy of the clock display.

AWESOME! I downloaded the app you mentioned, and I like it a lot!

I see you've loaded the tank with octane to pull the timing forward (eliminate knocks) - great idea.
I'll have to try the same setup as yours.
I do have one question: I haven't gotten serious with the use of manually shifting. What is your experience with it? I rode a bike all my life, and the car sounds like a bike - almost (with the Borla), maybe I should shift like one :)

YUHAZE > happy holiays, im glad you found the app. i like the manual shifting, i think it helps trains the ecu. I almost always drive in manual. Only sometimes in auto like in traffic. I think I get a better sound out of the exhaust when I keep the rpms higher too, i have control of that when im driving in manual.
