  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

250 miles on my '12 R-spec and looking forward to finishing the break-in so I can really let this thing go...

I'd like to do a couple overrides as well as got a couple questions I haven't seen answered in the manual. Hope you all can help out.

1 - How to disable seatbelt chime? I saw a youtube vid for another Hyundai model but didn't see any instruction in my manual

2 - How to disable goofy entry and shut down chime. I read an article that the author stated its possible by following complex instructions in the manual. Can't find in mine.

3 - Phone call during navigation guidance. This is my first nav'd car. Is it normal for the voice guidance to stop when a call comes in while getting navigation guidance? Not sure why it would be a problem to be talking on the phone and still get the occasional interruption from the navigation system so you don't miss a turn. Am I missing something? Is there a setting I didn't find?

4 - Nav screen warning on every startup. I get it, not safe to use while driving. Gotta be som way to hack and disable this....super annoying to have to do this for the next X years.... again this is my first nav car so I'm new to this...just don't see why its so.

Thanks!!

The car settings in the DIS system can be set regarding the chime. Phone overrides everything, my Acura did and Mercedes does the same. The Nav warning screen is cannot be turned off, its a Fed. regulation. I don't know about seat belt, but I think that is required by Fed. Regulation too.

If you buckle your seatbelt there is no chime:cool:

Thanks!

Scottdk - always gotta be some wise guy who needs to show everyone how clever or smart he is. If you knew why I was asking about the seatbelt chime you wouldn't have made your dumb remark. Answer my question or stay out of the thread.

Man, no reason to be so harsh on someone, especially on your second post. He was poking fun I'm sure, hence the smiley face.

If you have extenuating circumstances that require you not to wear a seat belt, it may have been better to post that to explain why you are looking to disable the chime, rather than come down so harsh so fast. My Dad had a letter from his doctor, signed by a judge, that stated he couldn't wear a seat belt because of his heart and low blood flow to his legs, so I understand and can see that you may have a similar circumstance.

But lighten up a little. You'll get more responses that way. As the saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. ;)

And yes, the chime for the seat belt is a federal law. However, there is a little gadget that the Cops use that plugs into the seat belt buckle to disable the chime. They use it for fast exits from the car so that the chime is off when their seat belt is not connected. Not sure if you can buy them though.

To disable the seat belt chime:

Get in your car and close the door.
Turn the engine on.
Put the car in the appropriate gear and pull out of drive way.
Drive to nearest junk yard.
Using a knife, cut the metal buckle of the seatbelt off another car.
Stick said buckle in your belt receiver.
Drive Home.
Turn off engine.
Go inside and STFU about this stupid ass topic.

LOL! Man, I love this forum.... so much great information, so much experience, AND respect for the elder-posters! No crap from some punk two-poster allowed here, by God! :)

Thank you, Shellback. Wise words.

Everyone else, settle down, please. If you can't keep it civil, that's when the pepper spray comes out.

OP: Someone posted a solution for #1. There is no electronic solution that we know of. For #2, 3 and 4, there is no current workaround that anyone here knows of either, unfortunately.

#2 and 4 are annoying, yes, but you get used to it, and come to ignore them after a few weeks. Especially #4; my routine is get in the car, turn it on, click the DIS knob, put on seatbelt, wait for engine to idle down (as needed), put it in reverse, back out of garage. I don't even notice the button press anymore.

Welcome to the boards, and congrats on your new Genesis. I love mine, and you'll find that many folks on here feel very passionate about their own cars.

Genesis sedan owners tend to be an older crowd... so you'll get similar comments on topics that involve vehicular safety. Expect it, and try not to take offense.

We also "bust each other's chops" on a regular basis. So... relax. You'll live longer.

For people that remember him: Could you imagine what flyboy2 would have said if he was still participating on the forum?? We'd be crying from laughter and he would pretty much offend everyone just like Mr. Tosh. I love it:)

Thanks!

Wow. Unless Scottdk has a magic crystal ball, I am not sure (from your post) how he was to know why you were asking about the seatbelt chime; as you damn sure did not state a reason in your post.

Further, his "dumb remark" was a humorous comment, that obviously escaped you. Your comment: "Answer my question or stay out of this thread" is unwarranted, and quite frankly, very rude. You talk to everyone this way?

That being said; congrats on the new car, and welcome to the forum. :welcome:

Maybe he is a 20 year old elitist that thinks the world owes him a debt, he is above the law, and seatbelts aren't "cool".

That being said, I am only 22 and do not act this way.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
22 - that makes me like a fossil :(

His might be, but I'm a little younger, mine's closer to 10. :)

Is your social security number = 1 perhaps?:D

Between OneFunGenesis and his skateboard and me and my walker, you're push'n your luck there sonny. You might not be able to keep up! :D

FWIW I work at a multi-building campus that doesn't have traffic in the parking lots but requires us to drive quite a distance for meetings. seatbelt chime is just annoying.

More likely it's tort prevention revelation :-).
