  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No real issues with the car until tonight.
Its a 2013 R-spec sedan with 1300 mi.
Pressed the start button, once started, automatically hit the knob to acknowledge the warning screen.
put the car in reverse and started backing out of the garage.

The reverse camera never came on, and the hyundai logo stayed on the screen. The audio started, but the knob would not work, nor would any of the buttons. I could change between am/fm/sat by pressing the buttons under the radio, but couldnt tell the channel i was on

I had read about issues with the audio "freezing" and restarting the car would fix it. When I got the the stop sign at the end of the street. I put it into park and shut it off. Gave it a good 30-45 sec, and restarted.
Same thing.
I had traffic behind me so I had to go.
I stopped at the grocery store on the corner, parked, and shut it off again.
Sat there for approx 3-4 min and started again.
Same thing, knob not acknowledging, reverse camera not working.
I headed back home to grab my phone so I could take a video.
I got back to the house, shut it down and went into the house to get the phone. Total time 60-90 sec. Started the car.
Same problem.
Have it all on video now.
On the destination, there was a long red light, so i shut it off again. This time, I hit the lock button on the remote to lock the car.
Sat for approx 2 min, about 15-20 sec before the light turned, I unlocked the car with the remote and started it.
Same problem.
I drove to my destination approx 25 min away.
I got there, did what i needed to do and went back to the car. It was off approx 20 min at this time.
Problem totally vanished.
It was after hours for the service dept at the dealer, plus I had to drop the car at the airport and pick up a rental anyways for this week at work.

Should I email/bring the vid to the service dept so it is documented?
Should I forget about it?
Since it is entertainment system related, I doubt it would have stored any kind of warning code.
I thought they changed radios in 2013 to help with problems like this?
What would you guys do?

Thanks
John

I'm curious, was your phone paring via Bluetooth as well? The reason I ask is that I've had a similar experience and I think I've isolated it down to interference from the Bluetooth. Just wondering.

I have not yet paired it with bluetooth. It is completely bluetooth virgin

Hmm. Interesting. Well, I'm not sure this incident means a trip to the dealer just yet. You've got it on video so when/if it happens again you can tell them and more importantly, show them. These systems are now PC's and if I took my PC to the shop every time it froze - well it would be at the shop a lot..lol Most of the time a reboot of the system will fix the issue. Hope it doesn't happen again as I know it can be unnerving as this should not happen on a brand new car right? I feel your frustration.

Disconnect the negative battery cable in the trunk for 2 minutes or so then reconnect making sure the cables are tight on the battery and the negative/ground is very tight on the trunk floor/frame. If the freeze happens again then go to dealer. We have to remember that its a computer and sometimes a hard re-boot solves issues.

Easier than that. Pull the memory fuse in the drivers fuse panel. It's designed to be pulled by hand for prolonged parking to avoid battery drainage. It's in the manual

I pretty much stopped getting these glitches when I started doing this:
1 after starting wait until slow idle to switch into reverse. This gives the puter atv
computer time to boot before giving it a command.
2. If you have an iPod stop it from playing before shutting down.
Same idea. If its playing when you shutdown then it's a resource draw on the comp at startup
I had this sort of problem monthly unti I started doing this

The history of "fixing itself after shutting the car off and restarting" typically requires a 20 minute or so OFF time. The Tech package shuts down to a "standby" mode when you first turn the vehicle OFF... after several minutes it fully shuts down once it realizes you're not coming back quickly. The little blue light on the bottom lip of the CD/DVD slot will blink at the end of the timeout period.

My 2009 Tech (never had a firmware update) has done this a coupe times; a 2-minute shutdown didn't restore normal operation. Waiting a bit longer though reset it each time. I've never had anything on the car lockup enough that I had to unplug the battery to reset it.

dont have an Ipod, but i def did not let it go to slow idle before going into reverse. hopefully that was it

This has never happened to my R-spec but I have noticed that the "nag" screen is overridden by the back up camera. I always wait until the back up screen is gone and the "nag" screen is back on video before pressing the DIS button to display maps or audio.

I agree with an earlier poster who said the system may reset itself given enough time.

There have been issues regarding bad negative battery cable connection to the body in the trunk. That is why I suggested disconnect/reconnect and checking the ground/negative connections in the trunk. Even a momentary bad connection can screw up the computer systems in the car.

I own my fourth Genesis (one V6 and three V8s). All with the TECH pkg.

Had this happen on ALL of them. I've figured out that if you push the Nav/Audio knob (in anticipation of the Disclaimer screen - before it actually displays), your system will likely "freeze".

Takes 20+ minutes to reset.

Try this, and see if you can replicate the problem. I think you'll find its "user" error - though we can argue it shouldn't be doing this at all.

Yep. Twice in my Equus too. No big deal, minor irritant.
And to the OP: if it happens more frequently, after adjusting your behavior, that's why god created warranties. And believe it or not, but some Techs, Service Managers, dealers want to do right by you and replace the head unit if needed.

Jalanjalan has the answer. The "memory" fuse is the big yellow one, driver side. It works like a charm. Simply shut off the car, pull the fuse, restart and everything works as it should.

if i do this, will i need to reprogram my radio and reset my clock?

I am fairly certain disconnecting and reconnecting the battery will require that

Kf4zra I've only had to do the fuse pull twice in two years and I don't remember having to reprogram the radio or set the clock...lucky for me its only happened twice and long ago and I just don't remember either one of those issues. My freeze was an absence of sound (It's probably why Consumer Reports gives the audio a bad grade) . I never had the frozen screen. Its as if the processor in our head unit becomes overloaded with info and its response is to just freeze.
