  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello to all the Genesis owners,

I will be going into the dealer for my 15K mile service and i want to know if there is a fee that i should prepare for. Is the 15K mile service covered through the extended warranty? According to the service appointment the following is required at the time of service but it doesn't specify if its covered or the price if it is not covered.

*Replace Engine Oil and Filter
*Add Fuel Additive (recommended only if TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is not available. See owner's manual for details.)
*Replace Climate Control Air Filter / Air Conditioning Filter (for evaporator and blower unit)
*Tire Rotation
*Inspect Air Cleaner Filter
*Inspect Air Conditioning Refrigerant
*Inspect Brake Hoses and Lines
*Inspect Driveshafts and Boots

Thanks for any information or experiences you might have on this matter.

If you go to a dealer and ask for the "15K" service (or any other specified mileage), you can expect a "fee" that will be outta sight. Probably many hundreds of dollars.

Specify exactly what you want done and only what you want done and get the price ahead of time. And "open ended" service request will almost certainly get you an exorbitant open ended service charge. And all those "inspections" are just window dressing.

Lastly - service is your responsiblity - I don't think any warranty is going to pay for that.

What country do you live in?
What is your model year?

Make sure you take a jar of petroleum jelly. Since you appear to new to car repair scams by dealers, get an extra large jar.

i hear astroglide works better!! :D

If you need a cabin filter, Rock Auto usually has a generic replacement for under $10. I always use OEM for air filters, etc, but not a cabin filter. Otherwise, you basically need an oil change. You can inspect everything yourself and I would guess your dealer isn't going to bother to do much with a 15k mile newer car. If your AC blows cold, you probably need not worry about refrigerant. A bottle of fuel line/fuel injection cleaner is under $10.

Save your hard earned money....

My dealer does free inspections with any service (including recalls). They give me a print out of everything they inspected and the status. However, for those who like to pay extra, they will offer you the 15K (etc) service package where they charge for the inspections. Some people worship dealers, and like to pay extra for those things.

If I don't do the "factory required" maintanace like changing the cabin filter, would that void my warranty as I am not doing something that is required? I'm just getting ready to say "no" when the time comes and being knowledgeable about what I'm going to be talking about.
If you don't change your cabin air filer as required, your dealer has the legal right to immediately crush and melt your vehicle.:D

Actually, if you don't change your cabin air filter, and there is a lot of stinky air in the cabin, then that particular issue is not covered under warranty. If you never changed your cabin air filter after 50K miles, and the HVAC fan went out, they "might" blame it on a clogged filter.

If you change the cabin air filter yourself (you can purchase the official OEM filter at the parts counter), then save the receipt and the UPC part of the cardboard box for your records to prove you did it (obviously, this is more important when it comes to DIY engine air filters, oil changes & filters, etc). Be sure to record the date and mileage the service was performed.

Those cabin air filters get a lot dirtier (often with mold and mildew) than you might suspect, so buy a bunch of them and change at least once per year. Put it on your calendar.

I write the date and mileage on the box top and put it with my receipts for the vehicle. i do the same with the oil filter box. I also keep an Excel spreadsheet with the details of all work.

Not only does this help me keep track of things, but it is a big help with resale. It makes the sale much easier and makes people willing to pay more because I can document that the vehicle is well maintained.

I do most basic maintenance myself. I did have my mechanic do a direct injection, air intake, and throttle body cleaning. I also put a can of fuel injector cleaner in the gas every 5k miles.

All are excellent car maintenance advice! Can you also tell use what how your mechanic does the cleaning of the direct injection, air intake, and throttle body?
