  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Man, that IS cheap! How much was the Yugo? I'd much rather have the Excel..

Wow, and it had a $1000 cash back offer meaning you could get a new car for under $5k ($30k+ less than my Genesis). ;)

That's a history now, too bad the car was plaqued with problems that spawned all kinds of punchlines and became a laughing stock of talk shows and stuff, that hurt the Hyundai company as a whole in North America. Maybe US only, because they did pretty well with the Pony in Canada.

I still remember the first price of the excels. in 1985, when they first exported the 4 Door sedan and 5 Door hatchback, the starting price was $4,995. The commercial here was for the 3 Door(which came out a bit later) and I think it is 1987 or something since $5,795 was about couple years later, when they up the price a little.

The yugo's price however, started at $3,990 who exported their GV about few months before, and was like the cheapest ever car sold in US, and I remember seeing one of the magazine who tested it have said 'Better than a Used Toyota'. I don't remember which magazine it was but. These are memories now. Man....

My mom and I test drove a Yugo when they first came to the USA. We broke the transmission on the test drive. The dealer had to have it towed back to the dealership.

I remember it was $3990. I see kids in my neighborhood with more expensive go-karts nowadays!

Believe it or not, Yugos did pretty well in terms of sales goes, if I remember correctly. I heard they sold more than they expected, thanx to its super cheap price. I could easily spot one on the road. My father's reaction at first, after seeing it was like: 'Look at them wheels, is that really a tire for a car? looks more like a childrens' bike tire's to me'. My mother was like saying, 'I never saw a car that small in my life'.

One unique thing about it is that is had the spare tire inside the hood where the engine was, also, it was one rare car where people could actually lift it from the back, cause the car was so small and light, but I guess, cheap doesn't really lasted for long, if it isn't made right, for the company 'Zaztava' got bankrupt and had to pull out from the US.

The Yugo would probably be selling very well right now... I forget what company bought them but the latest versions were pretty decent cars..
