  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Finally had a chance to take our new Genesis (2016 3.8 AWD) on a short road trip today from Madison, WI down to Joliet, IL and back. Down during the daytime and back in the dark.

Some initial observations:

(1) 3 of us went and both of my passengers praised the comfort and quietness of the cabin.

(2) Years ago I sold and serviced BMWs and have owned both BMWs and Volkswagens. To me personally this care reminds me A LOT of the BMW 7 (and 5) in terms of its ride quality and feel....not quite as sporty as the 5 but very similar to the 7.

(3) My wife and I chose the Genesis over a new Audi A7 prestige and the main difference I feel between the two now is that the Audi seemed "lighter on its feet" and a little more eager to go. THAT SAID.....this car GOBBLED up the miles today. 65mph is a complete joke....it really likes 80 - 90mph a lot better. It is very, very solid up at those speeds and with the light traffic on I-90 I could have basically dialed up any speed I wanted (or cared to pay the ticket for).

(4) The tech is somewhat better sorted on the A7 but its certainly NOT bad on the Genesis - just seems like its a generation away from being the equal of the Audi. Although the Audi can't do the cool remote start tricks which I enjoyed today :)

(5) Seat comfort, seat heat, climate control were all excellent. Audio system was great and some MP3s I loaded on to the jukebox for the trip sounded excellent.

(6) The only issue I noticed was some vibration around 70mph in the steering wheel initially out on the highway that I could both feel AND see in the wheel. It SEEMS to pretty much go away after a bit. My car has the Michelins.....Its definitely in a VERY narrow speed band so I'll pay attention to that during the next few road trips but my initial impression is that its symptomatic of cold tires (outside air temp when I left this morning was in the low 20s and had been in the teens overnight).

So all in all.....LOVE the car thus far. Speed is VERY deceptive on the highway and although it doesn't feel like a rocket ship it has *plenty* of power for my needs and my driving abilities.

I was just in joliet il yesterday. anyways if you are feelin the car vibrate at 70 you might want to get your tires balanced or even aligned if it persist. With the way your guys roads are up here that would have been my guess.

Btw, on the G1, the dealer was able to preform wheel balance and the one alignment free of charge for the first year/12k miles., not sure if that still applicable to the 2nd Gen with AWD.

I also had a bit of vibration on mine. The dealer did a road force balance, and it's almost totally gone.

When they did the balance, they said they would follow up at my first oil change if there was still any issue. The service manager noted that these cars sit on the tires during transit, and they sometimes develop flat spots. It's worse when the tires are cold. He said that they knew that there would be the need to put a few miles on the car to help smooth that out, but if the problem persisted, they would re-balance, or replace tires if necessary to solve the issue.

It definitely seems to be getting better as I put a few more miles on the car. I noticed it more during the first 350 miles. I have a bit over 1000 miles now, and I took a trip down I-355 last week. I could feel it just a bit around 65-70. I had my son drive the car on the way back, and he said he really did not notice it.

I'll follow up at 3750 miles if there is any vibration left.

Maybe things have come full circle, but the last time I had tires that flat spotted in the cold was in 1969. Firestones, on a black '57 chevy. That I got for free and sold for $50. [administer dope slap here]. It wasn't a classic then, just a 12 year old junker. :-)
