  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2010 2.0T Premium (keyless entry/start), just turned 11 years old.

I've seen a number of starting problems on this forum, most with the 3.8L variant. This has really been occurring for quite a long time, since very early in its life. I will get in the vehicle (always or almost always it's warm as it's been running for a while - I don't think it's ever occurred cold), and the keyless start will crank but not start - accompanied by the buzzing tone (that typically turns off after a second or two); once I hear the constant buzzing I know it won't start. I try a few more times (2-6 times) and it eventually starts fine. Are the plugs not firing? Are the cylinders not getting fuel injected? Is the crankshaft position synch out of whack?

Has anyone experienced this, and have any ideas?

Thanks in advance -

I'm not versed on Genesis specific issues, but this sounds like a security issue. Your car might not be recognizing the key. Check the security light in the vehicle when you turn the key to the run position (assuming the key is an actual key, and not just a fob). Make sure the behavior of the light (either flashing, remaining illuminated, or on and then stays off) is as described in the owner's manual.

When you turn the key to run to check the security light, you should also hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds, and shut off. If you hear the pump, I would think fuel is not the issue. You can always check pressure with a pressure tester by hooking into the schrader valve somewhere near the fuel rails.

It is a keyless start as I indicated. I had even thought about listening for the fuel pump (I had a VW where you could hear it clearly, and it's about in the same location) but I can't do when using keyless mode because the pump wouldn't come on until I had depressed the start button; at this point there's too much noise from the car cranking.

When inserting the fob into the slot on the dash I still don't believe the fuel pump comes on until you press the start button (I could be wrong about this part) so possibly the same noise problem. However it does make me wonder if somehow the failure to start doesn't occur if I insert the fob. There's always pulling the back seat but I'm not to that stage yet.

I'll look into checking the injector pressure once I know what I'm doing - thanks -

All of my cars use an actual key to start the vehicle, so I have all the nice "On", "Run", and "Start" positions on my ignition switch. I think you can cycle the fuel pump by just getting in the car with the key and holding down the start button. That's the equivalent of the "Run" position. You have to put your foot on the brake and then press start to actually start the car

My 3.8 sedan does this too. I've had it to the dealer 7 times with no resolution. Hopefully you get an answer.
