  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can you give some more detail on this? I'm sure many would help, but from your description it is very difficult to understand what is going on. So it's a rough idle after warming up? If it's reproducible (which it sounds very much like it is) I would go to the dealer and have them take a listen. Could it be related to the cold start issue many are having? (Though with slightly different circumstances)

Starting in 2010 V8 Genesis, Hyundai uses a different timing chain that is quieter then the chain on the 2009's, so you and myself have a noisier engine than most at idle, with maybe the exception being the new GDI engines (excludes 4.6).

Oh That is Why

When I open the hood I can not hear that noise. hummm

Thank you very much !!!!!!!!!!

Hard to tell what you mean for the noise. My 2009 V8/Tech though is very quiet at idle - and my car is one of the early 2009s, before any "running changes" were done to fine-tune the vehicle. Typical problem noises that pretty much any car makes at idle:
1: exhaust manifold warped, loose, cracked, or bad gasket: noises that change with engine temp. Usually a sharp puffing sound. Exhaust leaks after the manifold, up to the various kinks in the exhaust pipe or up to the catalytic converter will be a higher frequency puff. Often these leaks are visible because there will be a black sooty carbon buildup around the leak. A good flashlight helps spot these buildups.

2: dying bearing in anything run by the ribbed serpentine belt (what used to be "V" belts in cars) including - and most frequently - the tensioner wheel that keeps the belt tight.

3: marbles rolling around an empty coffee can: dying water pump bearings.

4: loose spark plug: another puffing sound.

Pop the hood and see if you can locate the source of the sound. A 1 to 2 foot long piece of tubing/hose (even a paper towel core) helps a ton. Just don't let it touch anything hot or moving! For parts that are duplicated on the left and right sides of the engine (e.g. the exhaust manifolds) the sounds should be identical left-to-right.

The big piece of black plastic on top of the engine just snaps into place - with the engine stone-cold grab the front edge of the cover and jerk it upwards, then repeat along the back edge.

I actually took my car into the dealer to have them check out the noise, but they reported back that the car had loud fuel injectors. Other, non-Hyundai sources reported the same thing as my dealer. I'm not worried about it.

I only hear my 2009 Tau when I stop under the roof of the mailbox kiosk or in my garage. Out in the open, it is very quiet.
