  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey Everyone,

Happy Monday!

I have a weird situation and searched for a while but no luck.

2009 4.6 and my windshield wipers stopped working when I move the wiper switch up and down. Nothing worked. So I left the switch on and opened the hood to replace the 30 amp fuse and when I pulled the fuse out, it wasnt blown. When I put it back in....the wipers started working!

So now anytime that I need the wipers, I need to put the switch on, open the hood, pull out and and put the fuse back in to get them to work. Crazy right?!?!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What is the date on your battery? Any other little issues besides this?

Not sure on the date of the battery but there are no other issues besides this weird one.

Corrosion? I'd clean the fuse and contacts and see if that cures it.

I've done all of that. Replaced the fuse cleaned the contacts too. It seems like there may be a diode or some other part of the controller that once I turn the wiper switch on, the system sees power to the fuse, then remove the fuse and when re-installed, it works normally.

Hey Scott,

Curious as to what the age of the battery has to do with it?

The car starts fine and all other functions work normally.

Thanks

An old or bad battery can cause all sorts of problems that may seem unrelated to the symptoms. I was having issues with my car such as the interior lights not working, blank Nav screen, etc. My battery was the issue and it was only a year and a half old. A new battery solved my issues, but in your case, I'm thinking the battery is probably fine, but it doesn't hurt to test it.

Thanks for the tip and I'll try replacing the battery.

Before you replace it, take it to Interstate Battery and have them test it while it's in the car so you know what you're working with. Low voltage does weird stuff in cars.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Same problem here, battery fairly new. Really wish I knew what was going on.

I had a new battery die on me at 12mo, Advance Auto parts replaced it for free and apologized... so it can happen. Battery terminals can also get loose (or not be correctly tightened @ battery change); I've had that happen too.

Or the BCM can be going and losing its little mind and need replacement.

Any auto parts store can check your battery as well as the starter and alternator while they’re still in the car for free.

Not sure about your Genesis, but mine is a 2012 and the wiper system was a safety recall.
