In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just purchased a 2010 4.6 with 24,000 miles. Car seems
better than new. under normal operation city and highway no issues. under hard acceleration from a dead stop I feel a rumble between 1st and what ever the next gear is. not as noticeable with manual shift from 1st to 2nd. My question is this from a limited slip rear end or
is the transmission shifting 2-3 gears suddenly. The car has no issue with high kick down acceleration once rolling. I turned off ESC but no change

This feels like it would be another the car is fine I've heard so much about from the dealers.
opinions please.

The rumble is the center carrier bearing of the driveshaft. It is covered under warranty and the entire shaft needs to be replaced. Dealer will charge you nothing and may give you a loaner for a day. The new shaft will fix it.
This is known problem with some. there are some theads about this on the forum. Its not the spacer, so if the dealer just does the spacer tsb then it will not fix it and may make it worse.

If you google driveshaft center bearing vibration you will find that Cadillacs, Mercedes, audi, and others with high power engines have had this problem. Its is not a complicated fix.

Went to the dealer today and got the, "we can't reproduce your problem". I said, " I was warned this might happened"
Let the tech ride with me. It was early and the car had only driven 3 miles. It took 2 tries from dead stop to get the rumble. The tech said yeh that's it alright. I'm scheduled
5/14 for an new drive shaft and center support bearing.

I wonder if many of these 09-11 have this issue but its completely undetected unless you really GAG it from a dead stop. I started noticing it when I would pull out in traffic prematurely and need max acceleration. I would recommend everyone do his test. If this bearing fails under normal operation it might take a while for some owners.
Completely covered under drivetrain warranty.

I think the replacement shaft/center bearing has a beefed-up design.

I suppose your right given the increased power of the GDI engines going forward.
Thanks for your response

Well, I got the drive shaft replaced today, but rumble in the console persists under hard acceleration between 1st&2nd gear. Dealer is having pow-wow with the Regional Tech guru.

Well, the verdicts in. Replacing the drive shaft solved a number of
drive drain rumbles and flutters. I would go do a full throttle test
from 1-2nd using shift gait and see if you can produce the symptom while the drive train warranty is in force. If you are a normal cruise kind of driver it won't be detected but it still may have a defective Center Support Bearing.
The part was $1200. So don't delay.:D

I am having the same problem on the '09 I just purchased. Is there a specific TSB for this fix we can tell the service manager?

Hyundai has had numerous warranty claims for the propellar shaft replacement on 2010. There should not be a problem. They know about this because they changed the actual driveshaft on the 4.6 on 4/28/10.

I also noticed on the service maintenance schedule to "inspect the propellar shaft ie driveshaft every 15,000 miles forever.

There should be a recall on this but not likely because normal operation may not demonstrate the defect.

After a few years of the intermittent drive shaft rumble.. of coarse it not presenting when it was taken to the dealership (more frequent when the car was 'cold'), I took it into North County Hyundai along with a print out of some of the above posts and the solution.

Hyundai went through the process of doing the service bulletin fix, and immediately followed up with replacing the driveshaft. No more rumble. Didn't know the Genesis was so smooth. Notably better (rumble gone).

and the dealership provided a loaner for the about 8-9 days my car was 'out'.

Hats off to North County Hyundai (Carlsbad, CA)

i think this is also my problem. it only happens when i floor it hard, and even at that, it doesnt happen every time. but it rumnles/ knocks hard between 1 and 2nd gear, and then i lose power.

gonna take it to the dealer and try to reproduce the problem w/ a tech in the car. glad i found this thread.
