  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When I press the brake and push the button to start the car in the morning the dash lights up and nothing else happens. Car does not start. Then I decide to push the button and keep it pressed and the car starts!

The next time I try to start the car by pressing on the brake and pushing the start button and it starts right up. I do this a couple more times and it starts up right away!

The next morning when I press the brake and push the button to start the car in the morning the dash lights up and nothing else happens. Then I push the button and keep it pressed and the car starts! Subsequent starts have no problem.

This happens again on the third day. Why do you think this is happening? Only time it does not start is first attempt in the morning. I had the brake switch replaced about a year ago under the recall. Do you think it is the brake switch?

I don't have experience with this issue but how old is your battery? The car is a 2010 and if it hasn't been replaced you may be experiencing a battery related issue.

Thanks for replying.

The car battery was replaced about 9 months ago and the batteries for the 2 FOBs were replaced about six months ago.

I am going to bring it to the dealer tomorrow. I asked them to check the brake switch for an open circuit. Since the brake switch was part of the Genesis recall I hopefully will not get charged. Car has just over 60,000 miles and just turned 6 years old, so it is out of warranty.

Just a side note, I was lucky to get the Blue Pearl color which still looks magnificent. Many people at the dealership ask me how do I like the new car. I tell them it is a 2010 and they can not believe the quality of the paint job.

For that first start of the day... how far does the brake pedal move when you press it? In theory the power brake booster assembly should trap engine vacuum (which is what gives you the power braking assist) for a few days. If the vacuum bleeds down overnight the pedal will take a lot of force to move very far... it may be that a) your car is loosing the vacuum assist overnight and b) the resulting stiff pedal doesn't push down far enough with whatever foot pressure you use while trying to start. Then when you say "darn it" and get mad you might be pushing a bit harder - enough to get the pedal to move enough to trigger the switch.

So next time try really pushing on the pedal - maybe both feet - and if that makes the car start reliably on the first attempt then I'd have the dealer examine the switch installation/adjustment and check the booster assembly plus the check valve for slow vacuum leaks.

Also, the Genesis electronics have two "off" modes. When you first turn the car off, much of the electronics only go to a "standby" state instead of fully powering off. Notice the entertainment system re-starts quickly if you've only had the car shut off for a few minutes? After 20 minutes or so the car realizes "nope, this isn't a quick stop at Starbucks... we're really gonna stay parked for a while" and the electronics fully shut down. When the systems are in "standby" mode I've noticed my START button reacts quicker - a quick jab is enough but once the electronics have fully shut down the START button needs more like half a second push to be recognized.

Mike c.,
Thanks for your comments. I am a little confused about the two modes. If I shut it off by pressing the start button once isn'everything shut off? If not how do I shut everything down? Do I press the start button again?

The dealer told me that they want it towed once it is dead so they do not have to replicate the problem. If it does not start tomorrow morning I will have it towed to the dealer.

Seems like the batttery is discharing during the night. Any ideas what could charge it to discharge?
Thanks.

Isn't there a hood switch that goes bad every so often that caused this discharge... but since it is not dead, and does start, this doesn't make sense that it is a battery discharge issue

You have not answered how old your battery is... an older battery can do screwey things.

Also, check the connections on your battery. I had a "similar" issue where it would not start reliably in the am, but other times it was ok...towed to dealer... said that I needed to replace battery.

When I got there, I asked what led them to believe.... they hemmed and hawed as to what they did to diagnose other than guess and throw 300++ at the car... so I bought a battery. when I went out to install the battery, the terminal connections were not tight... Tightened, and didn't have another problem. I returned the battery.

Thanks for your replys. i pelaced the battery on 7/2015, so it is not old.
I did find the cause.
I was using the easy access for the seat and steering wheel.
I turned off the easy access oprion for the seat and the steering wheel.
Starts every time now.
I had the seat module replaced about 6 months ago. So there must be an open circuit.
