If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wife borrowed my car today and said there were problems. I went to check it out and found that the audio system, including iPod were working fine but the display is not. Please see the picture. Has anyone else incurred this problem?

Is that Base Trim or Premium Package?

Looks like a blown display to me :-(.

oye! that does not look correct, well time to get your self a UNAVI Navigation System and replace that radio. Looks like that LCD just asked for the "check please"

Yep! Dealer says $1300 - $1500! Car is only 3 years old! And because I have 49k miles it is out of warranty! I'm pissed off! WTF does mileage have to do with the stereo! I'm ready to puke! Any other ideas friends that don't have to do with me shelling out $1000 for a stereo?

Maybe you can get a used one on eBay from someone upgraded to unavi or convince someone here in a base model to upgrade and buy theirs.

Wow that much, then if its that much I would give David over carlighttrends.com a call and just upgrade into a UNAVI, this way you'll have a working radio again and you also be adding a Navigation System to boot!

Sorry to see that your Radio's LCD died on you like that, I've sent you a PM with our current promotion and ordering instructions in case you want to upgrade to a UNAVI. I know that GiantRobo is very happy with his, and to add to what GiantRobo has said it will add a good amount of resale value to your Genesis down the road.

WTF does mileage have to do with the stereo![
Miles driven has some correlation to the number of hours the audio system has been powered on. I almost always turn off the display after startup, precisely because I know those kind of screens have a limited life and are expensive to replace. Since I only drive about 9K miles per year, I expect to keep my car about 6-7 years, which is way past when the audio system warranty runs out.

My problem is that I have 49,500 miles and the car was first sold Oct of 2009 putting me over.

The bigger issue I see here is that if you factor out the warranty it works out to 32.96 miles per day. According to a National Highway Survey in the US the Average miles traveled is 40.25 miles per day putting Hyundai way under United States national averages. This is my rant, I hope I can get some momentum and get my stereo fixed for free. I have some executive emails, I'm looking for more to appeal to the top levels.

Hello,

I had the exact problem on my base 2010 model car. The item is covered under the 5 year 60,000 warranty. This is not a radio part even though it shows the radio stations. It also shows the air conditioning temperatures as well as related temperature icons. It is not part of the radio. Your dealer should cover it under the standard warranty, rather than the more limited radio warranty.

The fully covered repair was to replace the display unit. The part is not coded by Hyundai under a radio component for warranty purposes.

The post above says the screen is not coded as radio part on the Base Trim model. Not sure about the 14-Speaker Premium Package model (you didn't say which trim you have).

Might be hard to get an exception based on the average number of miles driven each day, since all their warranties are based on a miles/months formula, and they are not likely to relax it.

Hi SteelerDave..

email the CEO/Hyundai USA...........consumeraffairs@hmausa.com

(I did & got my BlueLink Updated to the NEW Program).............

Good Luck............

Platgen,

Your comments makes some sense. The Display is used for more the Radio/Stereo. Without it you cannot see/set temperatures etc. So it would make sense that it could be covered under a different warranty.

And if you can replace just the screen perhaps it's cheaper then the whole stereo?

Thank you guys for the input! Busy at work today, you guys have gave me some great input!

In response to an earlier comment, I want to emphasize that the information on the display is for more than just the radio. The display is not only for the radio. The display is not part of the head unit. It is not physically connected to the radio. The display was replaced without removing or changing any of the radio. I have lifetime xm on the head unit and did not want the radio replaced. The xm lifetime remained unaffected after the display was replaced.

As an aside, try to have a display replaced that is not entitled a "floating unit." A floating unit, while it will work properly, is refurbished. See if you can obtain a new one.

Does anyone have any solution regarding the display being unreadable during bright sunlight? It's almost useless. Surely someone has a "fix" for this.
