  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey gang!

In November I bought a 2010 Genesis 4.6 that had the regular Navigation unit and XM. I got a free 3-month trial and the Nav traffic was part of it. In February my car was totaled in a 4-car accident. I replaced it with a 2010 with the 6-cylinder and Technology package. I am surprised a car with a "Technology Package" actually is less user friendly than the first one I had. No streaming Bluetooth music (the 4.6 had it), no download of the phone book (the 4.6 had it) and now speaking with Sirius/XM I find out the radio (which I love with the 17-speaker system) does not have the Nav Traffic capability.

In my Navi Menu, under Map Display there is an option for "Show Traffic". How does this work (or does it even work) if there is no data coming in from the XM?

Any help with this would be appreciated. I am an Outside Salesperson and knowing traffic info ahead of time is a HUGE advantage!

Thanks!

I am not an expert on that subject, but it may be that your original 2010 Tech Package had a TSB supplied to makes those things work, and the new V6 Tech Package has not had that service applied. But I don't know for sure that they are both supposed to have the same features.

Thanks. The first 2010 (the 4.6) didn't have the Tech Package. It was the smaller touchscreen Nav with no knob and the regular Lexicon stereo, not the 17-speaker one.

OK, maybe that explains it. FYI, the touchscreen NAV was not available in 2009 when Genesis first came out in US. I think starting in 2011, Tech Package was standard equipment on the 4.6 V8 in the US. But Tech Package was available as an option on the 2010 4.6 and you had the Premium Package with touch-screen NAV.

Double-check with XM on what your trial subscription contains. My 2009 Tech trial had XM NavTraffic as a subscription add-on. Your free XM trial may not have been entered properly by the dealer, omitting the NavTraffic add-on. Odds are you'll have to get the dealer to re-do the trial data entry.

XM NavTraffic works on my 2009 Tech. It's just slow to pick up new traffic problems due to the way XM depends on local cities to report traffic info.

I spoke with XM and the Tech lady asked me to go to Channel 0 to get my radio ID. On that screen, there is a blank box below the Radio ID box. The lady said that XM Traffic is only possible if there is a Data ID for the radio and that blank box is where it would be. Based on the radio ID, she doesn't even show Nav Traffic available.

So the question really is, "Why would there be the option in Map Display to "Show Traffic", if the radio doesn't support XM Nav Traffic, or does this one have the ability without the XM data?"
