  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am looking at two very low mileage 2009 4.6 models yet I read that there were suspension changes made for 2010. Nowhere can I find exactly what those changes were. They might be major enough for me to hold off buying the 2009.

Thanks

It has been discussed many times in this forum. There was also a mid-year 2009 change (April build date), so there are actually 2 different 2009 suspensions.

Comparing the early pre-April 2009 build date to the 2010, these are the changes made to the 2010 models:

  • changes to all four springs (a little softer)
  • changes to all four shocks/struts (a litte firmer with better damping)
  • change to rear stabilizer bar

General consensus is that the 2010 has about the same overall firmness as the 2009 (some think it is even firmer), but the springs and shocks are in better balance with each other, and the suspension performs better in the 2010 on less than good roads.

Also, if you buy a used Hyundai, the 10-year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty is not transferable to you from the original owner.

. You will see a lot of different opinions on the suspension on this site, mostly from folks who have not actually compared the 2010 and 2009. Of the very few who have, some find the changes noticeable while others don't.

You should be able to make a great deal on a 2009. The only sensible thing for you to do, in my opinion, is to test drive a 2010, compare it to a 2009 and see if you experience a difference and how much more you would be willing to pay to compensate for that difference, if you feel it exists.

There is a lot of back and forth on this, and the changes seem minor to some and huge to others. Best bet is just test drive any cars you're interested in and make sure they drive to your satisfaction.

Mark-thanks for telling me about the 10 year drive train warranty not being transferrable. That actually was more important then the suspension. Is the 2010 transferrable now??

The 10 year 100,000 mile warranty for the drivetrain is not transferrable on any used Hyundai. It is only available to the original owners when purchased new from a dealer. Not sure about dealer "demos".

You can read the warranty information on the Hyundai website.
