  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Brakes need replacing

Not looking to do a brake upgrade, or anything like that...
Looking for info on inexpensive / what are dependable replacements for OEM (performance was decent on OEM)

Cost is also a factor.
Parts for OEM are 200 or so a corner.

i got 47,000 miles out of the OEM with some warping in the last 1500 or so felt in pedal.

Also- where to buy, etc.

If not oem then Akebono pads or Wagner Thermoquiet. both are very low dust. I replaced mine with the oem since my oem pads lasted to 130k miles. Also if your rotors are warped then turning them is in order. Advance Auto parts has both. Don't go cheap on the car, its a high tech luxury car.

Everyone seems to love the Hawk HPS, with great results on wear, dust and noise. They aren't cheap though.

Cheap pads usually equals lots of black brake dust, fast wear out and poor braking.

When I went in for inspection, the mechanic said that turning them would take them close to the minimum for thickness - didn't recommend. I tend to agree.

Would be replacing the rotors and the pads.

I have changed them on my E39 540 BMW - piece of cake... was just looking for opinion on the aftermarket (don't need or want slotted / drilled rotors and track only pads....) rotors and pad selections... feed back on what others have used instead of OEM.

I'm running the Hawk HPS and have great results with them (also had them on my Genesis Coupe and G35). They have less initial bite than OEM pads but stopping power is linear, no noise and limited dusting.

Hawk ceramic pads are another good option if you hate brake dust though braking power is not the best.
