  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, been lurking on this site for a while but now its time to make a move. Many of you have owned two or even all three of the above models so your experience is invaluable to me. I have personally driven in a short test drive the 2011 4.6 and the 2012 3.8. and was more impressed with the 2011 4.6 than the 2012 3.8 from an engine and ride standpoint. So a few basic questions to this experienced group of Genesis owners. (1) Do most of you feel the ride of the 2012 4.6 or 3.8 is noticeably better than the 2011 4.6. in real world driving. (2) Is the 2012 Hyundai 8 speed transmission noticeable real world improvement over the very proven ZF model in the 2011 4.6. (3) Most posters in the past felt the 2011 4.6 was a very strong complete package compared to the original 3.8. Do people feel that the 4.6 in the 2012 car is still a noticeably stronger package or is the new gas injected 3.8 a very comparable car. From my perspective a 2011 4.6 and 2012 3.8 tech are basically the same price. The 2012 4.6 will be a couple grand more (not a deal breaker). I understand that the 2012 is a somewhat spruced up car compared to the 2011 but it also has new technologies in fuel delivery and an in house transmission built by Hyundai. So it's between the older proven package of the 2011 4.6 and the newer cutting edge 2012 models Having owned and driven these cars please let me know what car you would buy based on this experience. Thanks, look forward to you thoughts.

The only thing to worry about is that some early 2012 5.0 engines use excess oil.

Also, make sure you understand that because of the newly released 2015, there are some new 2013 models going for $10-12K off list, and new 2014's are $8-10K off list. Also fantastic deals on demos. But you need to act fast since they may be gone soon. Don't worry about what they are "asking" for these, just make a ridiculous offer.

2012 4.6 are a pretty rare bird, as are the 2012 5.0 non R-spec.

1. Yes, 2012 suspension (non-Rspec) has a noticeably better ride than earlier years.

2. No, the 2012 8 speed transmissions can be less responsive under emergency acceleration (1+ second delay while it downshifts) than the v6, but TCU updates improved this somewhat.

I do not recommend you buy an early 2012 GDI 5.0. Too much risk of oil burn issues.
