  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The following information was emailed to me from a Hyundai dealer who took it off the dealer website regarding change to the 2011 Genesis. The title of the memo of their website is the title above.

I think this means the 2011 has substantial changes to suspension and steering.

Steering and control technologies
• Engine-speed-sensitive, power steering,
rack-and-pinion (standard on Genesis 3.8)
• Electro-hydraulic power steering (standard on
Genesis 4.6)
— Optimal steering feel based on the speed of
the vehicle and steering input
— Independent of engine rpm
— 2.7% improvement in fuel economy
• Turning diameter, curb to curb: 36.0 ft.

SACHS® Amplitude Selective Damping (ASD) shock absorbers
• On rough roads or cornering, higher damping
force for greater stability and control
• On smooth roads, soft damping for
comfortable ride

I can't say for sure that were no changes for 2011, but all of that has been available since the initial 2009 model.

Please take a look at the following post. There have been no posted changes for the 2011 model lineup unless it is some sort of unannounced in-house tweaks / adjustments. As you can clearly see by the window stickers, all the information is identical from the 2010-2011 models. Here is the link:

Why would dealer email me this info if it were not true? He indicated that this was posted on Hyundai dealer website yesterday.

His info does not contradict what is on 2011 sticker.

Why would a salesman tell you that?

1. Because you expressed apprehension about the Genesis Suspension.

2. Because the salesman is a con man who is playing on your "objections" trying to convince you that everything is now fixed and that you should purchase a 2011. This is how the sales process works.

The information you posted is accurate per se (does not contradict what is on the 2011 sticker), just not any different than the 2009 or 2010 in terms of features. However we do know that some the actual parts themselves have changed such a revised shock and spring rates, and differences in size of stabilizer bar (but the brand or basic technology of the parts have not changed) from 2009 to 2010. Don't know if any changes were made from 2010 to 2011.

Almost all cars these days have variable power steering where there is more power assist when the car speed is lower (such as when you are in a parking lot), and less power assist when the car is at cruising speed.

The V6 (like most cars) has hydraulic power steering (powered off drive belt), and the V8 always had electronic power steering (powered off the alternator/battery) starting with initial Genesis sedan in 2009.

The Genesis has always used SACHS® Amplitude Selective Damping (ASD) shocks, but the shock rates were changed in 2010 model (there were some changed mid-year in 2009 but don't recall if it was the shocks or springs). The changes were not the brand or technology, just some changes to the shock rates.

Umm, hello! They are CAR DEALERS!
The only thing I see different from any previous model year is 2.7% increase in gas mileage- and this is the first I have seen about that/

That is the estimated savings by using electro-hydraulic power steering (as always used on Genesis V8) instead of completely hydraulic power steering (Genesis V6 and 99% of all other cars) that runs off the drive belt. This is just an improvement in marketing, not an improvement from prior year Genesis V8 models.

Typically, a web forum for a car (like this one) will always have better information and more informed people than any dealership. 99% of car salesman don't even take the time to really get to know what they are selling.

From latest (Sept) Motor Trend:

"WHAT'S NEW: The company simplified the number of interior/exterior color combinations from 16 to 13. The only other change is that the 3.8 Technology package content now comes standard on all 4.6s. This includes a 17-speaker 7.1 surround sound audio system, navigation, rearview backup camera, Bluetooth, smart cruise control and cooled driver seat.

COOL FACT: Toyota benchmarked the Genesis sedan for interior refinement when developing the 2011 Avalon"

Wow!!! That is way Cool !!!

I agree.
The sales person I dealt with, however, were quite knowledgeable regarding the features of the Genesis. I think Hyundai put a lot of effort into having the sales personnel more informed about the features.

That's a very good way of saying Base trim package not being offered anymore on the 4.6

Amen to that ....the salesperson that was talking to me didn't even know they received a shipment of 2011 Genesis Sedans yet. The Customer Relations Manager at the dealership had to let them know they had about 15 of them sitting in the back being prepped for sale. I'm glad at least she knew what was going on, that's why I was able to provide the pictures of the 2011 models and their window stickers so everyone could see that no major changes had taken place.

That is why I said if there were any changes made they were all in house tweaks/adjustments and nothing officially announced by Hyundai.

No one knows anything about any changes to 2011 suspension.

There are some rumors about the 2012 Genesis being introduced in early 2011, which will be considered to be a "refresh," and that makes it unlikely that any changes were made to the 2011 model from the previous model year.

The early release of the 2011 model (usually new model years are done in Sept/Oct) gives some credence to theory that the 2012 refresh will be in early 2011, but this is still rumor.

This is very much a possibility and I would think that for 2012 there will be a host of minor changes, along with a body refreshment (most likely interior and exterior)...I just hope it's nothing to radical. I very much like how my Genny looks right now and would like for it to stay somewhat like it is.

I disliked that on the 2011 Azera which got a minor body style change that they removed 2 rows of the LED lights off the tail end of the car. To me all this did was take away from the safety/visibility of the car. I guess they did this though because the tail end of the Genesis and Azera looked almost absolutely identical to each other.

I don't wanna see anything as crazy as what they did to the Sonata happen to the Genesis lol, while the Sonata looks great in comparison to the older body style I'm thinking just minor changes should be coming on the 2012 edition with a total refresh in 2013 or 2014.

I would love to see this color as an official release from the "Prada Edition" that was on show when the car was 1st released. Notice on the front grill right below the hood lip what appears to be a little square box of some sort, I think this was a front view camera. The only reason I say this is because when you go digging around in the DIS (Drivers Information System) while it's set in the Engineering and Diagnostic mode you can find reference to a Front Camera on/off option, which seems to be available if the car was equipped with one.

On a side note I'm glad to see the Azera will still be around come 2012, there are new spy shots of it all over the internet (/cheers :)). Everyone was thinking they would remove it from the lineup since the Sonata had a whole new look and became more feature packed then the Azera is for 2011.
