  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello. newer owner here of a 2011 4.6 Genesis w/ the tech package. My neighbor wanted to sell it fast, and I was there. Best 1500.00 car I ever drove... Anyway, The first few months I had it, everything was fine audio-wise. Last month, the audio, mores the volume quite working on all media functions including the navigation. Everything displays...I can see the song/channel on XM and the radio displays its on a station, but there is no volume. Turning the knob, the little speaker should shown bottom, but it doesn't. I read somewhere to turn it off completely before shutting car down, and I tried that. Sometimes after that, the volume is back! But for no longer then 20 minutes, then its mute again. Recently, I saw on the screen "check antenna", but not always. I initially thought it was the amp beginning to fail, but before I simply replace it, I want to be more sure what the problem is. Appreciate the help.

:welcome:
There's a glitch with the amps on the 09-11 that will put it (the amp) into safe mode until it resets (about 20 minutes or so key-off or fuse pull/battery disconnect). It behaves as if it sees a short in one of the speaker outputs and shuts down the amp circuit. I saw it once per year or so on my '09, and usually if I started the car around the same second as the driver door closed. The system was updated in 2012 with all new hardware and the "silent amp bug" happened only once on each of the 2012s I owned over all the years. Not sure if the '12 was the same glitch as the '09, but it behaved the same way.

If your car is going silent every time it sits 20 minutes or more, then that's not what I experienced. Might be a more severe "cold start" issue where it glitches every time. So in that case I would look verify that none of the speakers are blown (shorted coils showing low resistance) and/or no shorts in the wires or wet connectors, etc., and if all that checks out then replace the amp.

Good luck!
