In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I own a 2012 3.8 w/ premium, 4,000 miles.

I noticed something unusual this morning. My Average Fuel Consumption monitor (basically the Avg. MPG screen) reset to zero. I did not put any fuel in the car and did not intentionally do anything in an attempt to reset it.

95%+ of the time that I drive the car, I have the computer screen set to show me the average mpg. Last night I decided I was a little too focused on this number and not enjoying the driving experience so I switch my computer view to the Distance to Empty screen. When I parked the car last night, I had a distance to empty of 105 miles. When I started the car this morning, I had a distance to empty of 78 miles. No one else drove the car. So I ran through the computer screens and my average mpg screen had reset to "---" (zero).

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Anyone have any ideas on why it reset? I am sure this will not be able to be repeated at the dealership so I need help with ideas as to the cause.

Thanks in advance for your courtesy,

This is my first post to this forum. I have the same car, 2012 with the Premium package, Cabernet Red Pearl. Not yet 2000 km but the cold weather and installed snow tires are taking some of the enjoyment out of the drive.... for now. By the way, I live in Canada.

I suspect I have the answer to your question. These cars have a lot of options and I have enjoyed learning about the many features. A few have temporarily puzzled me (outside mirrors stopped moving down when shifting to reverse, rear shade stopped moving, interior lights stopped coming on when doors opened) but I have been able to resolve my issues so far with the Owner's manual and I have become much more familiar with all the options. In neither case, was there a problem. I was just unfamiliar with their use.

There are two possible ways to reset the average fuel reading to zero and I suspect the first one applies in your case. Page 4-57 of the Owners Manual states as follows:

"Pressing the RESET button [mounted on steering wheel] for more than 1 second, when the average fuel consumption is being displayed, clears the average fuel consumption to zero (----)."

"If the vehicle speed exceeds 1 km/h (1.6 mph) after refueled more than 6 L (1.6 gallons), the average fuel consumption will be cleared to zero (----)."

I hope you find this helpful.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I don't think either of the above applies in my situation. I parked the car in my garage with the distance to empty at 105 miles and did not touch anything other than the start/stop button. The next morning, I started the car and did not touch anything else other than the home link button to raise and lower my garage door. My distance to empty then read 78. In an effort to determine why, I clicked over to the avg fuel consumption screen and it had cleared.

I would say that I am 99+% confident I did not reset the avg fuel consumption screen. And yes, I am familiar with the owner's manual.

Martians. Man, they drive me nuts!

Sorry, just had to say it. ;)

My Genesis is a 2009 3.8 model. I have had this MPG reset problem for the entire period of time I have owned the car.

There is a pattern to this in my car. If the gas tank is 1/4 full or less, the MPG will reset to zero when I leave the car off for a period of time, e.g., overnight. I have no idea why it happens, but it is a regular occurrence.

I have a 2012 Genesis 3.8 with most options. There is no reset button on the steering wheel. I can set the trip miles to zero by holding down the trip button, however the Average MPG does not also change to zero. I would like to do several things: Set the average MPG to zero when ever I want to
I have noticed my Average MPG setting its self to zero with fill up....will look for that. Henry

while the average mpg is shown on the display press and hold the display (DISP) button on the steering wheel. That will reset the avg mpg.
