  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It's been bugging me since I got the car, when you slam the pedal off the light it's a nice gentle acceleration, the car doesn't even seem like it's trying.

Tried switching it to manual while letting it upshift on it's own, disable eco mode, turn ESC off...seems to feel almost the same.

The reason I think the software is slowing it down on purpose, when you're moving at any sort of speed and you punch it, it really moves.

Yet off the line I can't even get a decent chirp out of 245mm continental DW extreme summer tires.

Anyone else experience this? I can't understand how 333hp doesn't burn tires off the line...it has to be software limited!

For what it's worth....when I test drove my R-spec it laid two nice 50 foot strips behind the car. I then put on some sticky Bridgestones, 275 mm wide. That's 3 inches wider, combined, of more rubber on the road. Despite turning off the ESC and putting the gas pedal to about 2000 RPM, before releasing the brake, I no longer spin the tires, at all. Actually that's good for performance because the car simply goes. Unfortunately, I think you have a normal V6. These cars weigh about 4200 lbs. Give it some gas with your foot on the brake and then release same. You may get a spin?

Can you tell me exactly what 275mm tires you put on your r-spec 5.0 so I can put them on mine - and is that 275mm front and back?

Same thing for me also Sky. When I put on the Sumitomo Summer tires I could only spin them a little bit, unless it was cool outside. Now with my new Continentals I can roast them like they're made out of plastic.

I guess the message here is never underestimate the difference tires can make. :)
Still some people don't believe in snow tires, but that's another topic.

to drive the point home, I have test driven a 5.0 R-Spec with the all season 235 tires and off the line it made 0 chirp and felt like it accelerated as slow as the 3.8.

Either the traction control cuts in so early that I can't feel it or this thing is programmed to save the tranny and the engine.

My theory was to give it more grip and get faster times but it hasn't worked out yet...

At speed 60-90 the 5.0 felt tons quicker so it wasn't a slow model.

I'd like to get more feedback on this apart from the tires as they don't seem to make a difference and I haven't found a way to turn traction control off.

I believe several intrepid forum members have discovered that the only way to truly defeat the traction control "nanny" is to yank the fuse. I'm not sure, but seem to recall that one or two folks actually installed a cut-out switch to that fuse in order to avoid having to yank it out when they wanted to cut loose. You might want to search some of the old threads for more info.

cut the fuse...thought never occured to me, but it's simple enough to test it out to see if it makes a difference...in theory. Thats the kinda things I'd like to hear :)

it snowed yesterday and I got stuck in a small puddle/snow mush on my summer tires (I know I know but I didn't get the chance to swap em out fast enough). Turning ESC off completely disabled traction control and I was able to wiggle my @$$ out of that puddle even though it was embarassing.

Looks like ESC defeats traction control so acceleration must be limited somewhere else. I think I read on Car and Driver that the rev limiter is much lower for first and second gears, that might be the reason.

put on a set of Continental DWS all season rubber today and boy was I surprised. Just as I got them on on the first traffic light I decided to have a quick race with my brother and his Civic.

Long story short he was at the next light and I was still laying patches of rubber near the first...

ESC definitely turns traction control off and I am now considering going with a 265/275 rear as this car is putting down way too much power for all seasons to hold on.

Still...acceleration to 60 seems sluggish...but I guess I'll drop it until I got fatter tires in the rear.

A few days ago I did a test drive on a 2012 genesis sedan , both 4.6 and 3.8 . After that I tested a turbo sonata. Both the sonata and the 3.8 genesis sedan shifted at 5500 rpm , both in manual and auto mode. Well below red line limits. The 4.6 genesis sedan revved right to red line and pulled hard all the way. I know all members have kept tack of genesis sense 2009. From the 2009 start of the genesis many 4.6 cars were no faster than the 3.8 models. This was caused by software problems controlling the engine and transmission. Its obvious to me and I know to many others that the new 333 hp v6 has the ability to be much more responsive , than present tuning allows it to be. Its believed that Hyundai is protecting itself from drive train breakdowns by limiting power , especially in the lower gears. The new 8 speed transmission in the sedan has been mentioned in many tests as slow, awkward and under performing. It will be interesting to see how the new genesis coupe performs with its updated engines and 8 speed auto. If the state of tune is to protect the drive train , there will be many in the dealers lots. Just as a closing , I love the genesis sedan and will do another test drive to see if performance is up to par. We are paying for this performance why should the pcm programming limit an excellent experience.

thanks for the post, I've driven a 5.0 Genesis but I didn't slam it from stand still so didn't get the chance to see how it shifts, I only tried 60-90 and that was a serious bump in speed from the 3.8.

Either way...I've noticed that rear tires wearing all season rubber can't provide enough grip anyway (and I got 245's instead of stock 235's on). Summer 245's do a better job but you can still chirp them.

Full power would definitely be interesting to see and would probably require 265 or 275's.
