  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone,

I'm a long-time lurker, 1st time poster and I really appreciate this forum. I've been lusting after this car since mid-2008, but I'm a late-adopter. So, I'm ready to pull the trigger, but have a question.

Am I misunderstanding something regarding the pricing of these two choices? Zag shows the fully-loaded V6 costing more than the base V8 (which I think has the same options, with a bigger engine). I was originally planning to purchase the 3.8 Tech, but can't figure out why I wouldn't purchase the 4.6. Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks.

there is no "base V8". comes with everything, plus things you can't, at any price, get on the V6 tech.. for only $2k more, it's a no brainer (disclaimer.....yes, i originally purchased a V6 tech and got "lucky" to get into my V8, but i was an uninformed consumer at that point, shame on me).

The V8 has list price of about $2000 more than the V6 Tech Package, so don't know why Zag shows that the V8 is less money (unless it is 2011 model).

As to why someone would purchase the V6: better fuel economy, better handling (closer to a 50-50 front-year weight ratio than the V8 that has over 200 extra lbs on front end). But you should probably drive both to see which you prefer and/or better meets your needs.

I took that advice and drove both the 3.8 and 4.6. I just picked up my 4.6 with Premium and tech pangs and absolutely love it!
