  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Was just wondering if it's computer limited or something else, topped out at 130 in 6th gear.

I was a bit stunned.

Well I have to say that I am the proud owner of the 3.8 V6 and have had the privelege to drive my car on the autobahn with no speed limit, but sad to say that the car topped out at 140 with plenty of power left in the engine. It's almost safe to say that I have the only Genesis in Germany and this car is such a head turner it's rediculous; always getting confused with a Mercedes. God I love this car and I wouldn't trade it.

Why are you going 130 mph to begin with?

I haven't found any place where you can go over 70. That's plenty for me

Here in Texas we have new speed limits on some roads out west. Would you believe 85 mph?

Between Dallas and Ft Worth most traffic flows at 75-80 until you see a police car.

would you believe there are places where you can go 130 and not break the law?

my main question is, is this normal?

The only other car I've had with a speed limiter was a Pontiac and I can understand why that can was limited to 112.

What is the speed rating of the stock tires on the car? Manufacturers often put caps on the top speed based on the tire speed ratings. I wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai limits the V6 more than the V8 also - Hyundai probably figures folks that really want high top speeds will buy the more powerful engine.

As mine was Tech/Premium it came with 18" wheels and V rated tires.

I looked back at the base model and that came with 17" and H rated tires (130mph).

I guess it was easier for Hyundai to just slap 130mph across the board...I guess mystery solved.

What did you do with 7th & 8th gears?

I picked up on that, I was in manual to make sure the car wasn't going any slower than it has to.

Once I hit 130 in 6th it's as if it hit a wall, was making just enough power to stay at that speed.

I manually shifted to 7th and nothing changed other than the gear display.

my money is on limiter.

Sure, on a race track. But we both know that's not the case.

The 3.8 Genesis coupe is speed limited to 149. Big difference between the GC and the GS.

The 4.6 sedan is limited to 155. Though I read somewhere that without the limit the top speed of the 4.6 is 178 mph.

Next time I'm going 129 mph, I promise to worry about this.

A few years ago I had my 2006 F-150 King Ranch on the Dyno at Dallas Mustang. They took off the limiter and inside the building, on the dyno, the truck did 162 mph!

Wonder what the truck would top out at if it had wind resistance?:D

I'm often surprised that my Genesis (2012, 4.6) always has more power than I think it does. The fastest I've driven ever was 135 MPH (but not in the Genesis) in Texas with the cruise control engaged.

I also have a 3.8 2012 push it to 140 before backing off and it could have gone faster, but I didn't want to push it any higher. I'm not sure of a limiter but that sure was my limit. Never driven a car that fast before only on a motorcycle. I was told the Genesis is fast, so had to see for myself. I'm not doing that again, lucky no cops where out that night.
