  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've read many of the transmission fluid posts on the forum, and I have a question.

My 2012 has 116k miles, trouble-free, and no issues with the engine or tranny. I'm planning to keep the car for at least a few more years, so I'd like to get the transmission fluid drained and filled (no flush), probably replace the filter/pan, and also drain and fill the differential fluid.

My issue is that I'm wondering if any dealers in my area can even be relied up to do it? Since these cars have a "lifetime" fluid, I'm worried that the dealer would even use the correct procedure to change the tranny fluid, which I can see is not as simple as just dropping the pan and replacing what drains out. The dealer may even tell me "we don't do that since it's lifetime," which is ridiculous, but I've heard it before.

Would anyone have recommendations for a dealer in the NYC/Westchester/Long Island area who can be relied upon to do this work correctly? Or, maybe a private shop? It's so difficult to find a good one, private or dealer.

For the differential fluid, I'm less concerned about having any issues getting it changed, but for the transmission fluid I'm nervous about potentially damaging my car, but I also know I need to change it.

I am agonizing about this, as you can see.

Hey I'm in Northern Virginia and about to do this myself for my mom's car (2012 Hyundai genesis sedan 3.8L).
Hoping to use my neighbor's lift. I've been researching this for the past few days (have search YouTube and the closest we get is this video here
). I'm planning to do rear diff at the same time.

NHTSA PDF link (also attached - has good pictures):
You need 10 and 14 mm hex socket for undoing underbody panel. NHTSA PDF says transmission fill/drain/level plugs are all 8 mm hex so get an allen key for that. If you have a scan tool that would be good to measure trans temp while doing it, torque wrench, trans fluid (I would get minimum 11 U.S. Qts), pump for trans fluid

Parts list:
[Transmission]
12x Transmission fluid SP-IV-RR 00232-19052 (just to be safe, factory service manual says 10.14 U.S. Qt capacity. I am replacing trans pan to replace the integrated filter).

1x transmission pan assembly 45280-4F001
1x transmission pan gasket 45282-3C100 (not needed, included in transmission pan assembly above)

Not 100% sure about part #'s below:
I assume drain and level plug are the same based on how they look in the YouTube video. Plug is 45285-3C000
Same deal as above. Assume that the drain and level gasket are the same. Gasket is 45284-3C000
1x transmission drain plug DUPE1
1x transmission drain plug gasket DUPE2
1x transmission level plug DUPE1
1x transmission level plug gasket DUPE2
1x transmission fill plug 45235-4E000
1x transmission fill plug gasket 45323-39000

[Rear differential]
100% confident about these part #'s (already have 2 sets for drain/fill washers)
1x Differential fill crush washer: 53084-39000
1x Differential fill bolt 53082-3C000
1x Differential drain crush washer: 53072-39000
1x Differential drain bolt: 53070-39000

Personally, best prices after looking around was from hyundai.oempartsonline.com

HyundaiPartsDeal and other sites have a hazard fee on the transmission fluid which takes them out of running. I have read about Ravenol SP-IV RR from BlauParts, but they have no phone # and idk if they are using OEM trans pans for this https://www.blauparts.com/hyundai-g...luid-change-kit-2012-2016-8-spd-sp-iv-rr.html
