  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 5.0 non-rspec questions

Changes the shift points lower and softens the gas pedal feel.
You, my friend, have ruined my gas mileage for life. I had a small errand to run after reading your reply and turned it off. Dammit. It was sooo much better. I think my debit card cried.

I feel bad about the debit card, but it will bring happiness to your life. I use ECO once in a while but after a day, off it goes. Makes a difference when getting on to the highway.

Fortunately, unfortunately, however you look at it, my Genny is my daily driver. I like the fact that you can turn it on, (mundane Dallas commute), and turn it off (farm to market roads that have been freshly blacktopped with forest on both sides.) I was J/k about the debit card, but when it goes to 6800 before a shift, from 5500, it's a whole different animal.

it does nothing in the 1G vehicles
simply a LIGHT not a "mode"

I'm in suburbia East of Dallas. Is it worth a cold air intake or will K&N filter do?
Cool I am on the North side - send me a private message if you want and we can try to connect and talk Genesis!

I have used K&N filters in my last vehicle with over 200k miles on the same filter and in our Tahoe with over 100k on the same filter (obviously clean them occationally).
Yet I am sticking with OEM filters in my Genesis. I simply do not want any extra dirt getting through the air intake with the direct injection issues causing dirty intake valves.

In other words - your vehicle so do what you want but I am sure you will have 0 power increase with the V6 and probably the same with the V8 and a drop in filter. The OEM setup is a pretty good one

I have driven my car for over 50k miles personally (bought used) and have tried eco on or off and kept track of mileage. No difference at all. It turns off over 80mph also regardless of throttle input
it is simply a light to say when you are driving "economically" remember in a 4100 pound car with a V8...I turn it off as it is annoying
I am happy to save the money vs spending the big $$$ on the new models when it is "active"

Like you, I have a 2012 non R Spec 5.0, with the one exception being that mine is a very early 12' and accordingly, I do see a bit of oil consumption (aprox. 1 quart per 3k), which to be really honest doesn't seem so bad to me. Considering my 99 Miata ate about the same and my 400+hp DSM ate a quart per 1500 miles or so. I bought my Genesis with 42k 2 1/2 years ago and broke 108k this week.
Eco.... Still haven't noticed much difference with it. I do a lot of freeway driving and at 80+ for long durations, I still manage 22ish mpg. Around town, I see about 20ish, depending how much or how little I stay out of the fun pedal. The only big thing that I've noticed is that the light flickers on and off as I sit at around 80mph... (Eco turns off at 80mph.) so that being said, I've permanently turned it off.

In regards to intakes, the stock intake is surprisingly very good on the V-8. I made the mistake of buying a Weapon R "cold air intake" for my car and it made no extra power... In fact on the dyno, I actually lost power. I ended up reverting back to the stock setup and made a few mods to it to include removing the air flapper at the bottom of the box, removing and blocking off the resonators and installing a K&N drop in filter. K&N doesn't specifically list a drop-in filter for the 5.0, but it's the same as the V-6. You want filter # 33-2426 .

As far as ditching the secondary cats, this is pretty easy to do and will free up a few hp, especially if you add an aftermarket exhaust. The rear cats aren't monitored, meaning replacing them with test pipes won't give you any sort of check engine lights or anything. 3.8 liter test pipes from any of the coupe vendors will bolt-in, but I don't think that you will see any real benefit from them unless you back them up with an exhaust. I installed a Magnaflow 15059 system and have been really happy with the quality and sound. You're going to spend around $150 for the test pipes and between $1k~$1300 for the Magnaflow. Another option to save some cash is to take the car to a decent performance shop and have them weld you up a 2 1/2" mandrel catback system.
From the exhaust alone, I didn't see much of a gain on the top end, (maybe 10ish hp) but made a significant gain in mid-range torque and saw 10~15hp increase across the rpm band as well.

The sad part is that there is very little after market support for this car, to the point of being annoying. Have fun and hope that you've found some of the answers to your questions in this thread.

Ok, old thread, new problem. When I bought the car the rear windshield tint was in BAD shape. I painstakingly removed it but never had it done again. I have been using the sunshade. I put it up and forgot about it until backing up in the dark the other day and went to put it down and pressing the switch did nothing. It then dawned on me that it used to go down in reverse and back up in drive. I dont think its done that lately. Kinda forgot about it. Checked the fuse, its fine. There is zero noise, and I never heard grinding or anything but now, nothing. I would think it was the switch button, but I think it would still work by shifting into reverse so i dont think the switch is the issue. Any ideas? Again, no sounds, no grinding, just no nothing. Worked fine until it didnt work at all. Stuck in up position.

Sounds like the sunshade motor has failed.

Great. From what I understand this is like a $900 fix. Looks like its gonna be up forever.

My ‘12 rear sunshade motor was replaced under my extended warranty. It worked, but was noisy. The extended warranty cost me $1,295 and runs till 2024, or 100,000 mi. My odo currently reads < 42,000.

I have a warranty, but would have to see if this is covered. Mine cost about the same, but was only for 3 yrs/36,000 mi. Ive had it for a year and about 14,000 mi. - time to start making my money back. Lol.
