  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am looking at buying a 2012 3.8 Genesis with 198k on the odometer. Am I crazy? Asking 4k. Trying to get to 250k

Yes, you are likely what you think you are. A ‘12 with almost 200,000 miles has done its duty. If you buy it, it will likely do its duty on you.

I'd buy it, but for dirt cheap. At that point of life, it may go another 100k, or it could die tomorrow and you have a parts car worth $100 or so.

A quick look at KBB for value put it at $2200 for trade in. I'd offer even less. Invest the savings into something with a good return, like lottery tickets.

$4,000 could buy a much newer Honda, Toyota, etc. That’s where I’d put my money. Of course, if you know the current owner and trust his service records, which you will surely review, the ‘12 Genesis might be a decent buy at Ed’s price.

I’m sure you’re tempted by the beauty and comfort of the Genesis but at your price level, a dependable vehicle is more important than a purdy chariot.

Thanks for the feedback. The used market in Maine is still super price inflated right now and anything with lower mileage sells almost immediately. I agree, a Honda or Toyota would make a lot of sense.

I meant to mention a Hyundai too, whether Sonata, Santa Fe or a Tucson.

Definitely open to other Hyundai vehicles. We, unfortunately, are putting our Veracruz down as it has completely rotted and rusted out on the underbody. Typical of cars in the Notheast.
