2012 Dies while driving

My 2012 Genesis has started dying while I'm driving. The motor just stops while driving. I wait a minute and it re-starts. Some time late it will just die again. Service finds no codes and the battery load tests fine. Everybody is stumped! Can anybody help? Has this happened to anybody else?

Does the electrical stuff come back on right away/stay on? If so my guess would be a fuel issue such as a fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. I doubt either of those would toss a code

edit: Maybe a crank/camshaft sensor if the car abruptly dies. My Dad's BMW had the cam sensor fail and it took 4 or 5 total shutoffs before they were able to actually pull a code. If it sputters out then most likely fuel issue.

Our 2011 has been doing this very often lately. Has anyone found the solution? We took it in to the dealership and they came back with $4300 worth of things they wanted to “try”

That's a lot of "try" and you can still be screwed. I'd take it to another dealer and trade it in while it is running.

**UPDATE** we Are still Driving this car with absolutely no problems. After putting up with it dying periodically for quite a long time, I think it has been resolved finally. Whew! The alternator went out, we replaced it, and boom. We’ve gone 8 months with no More dying

Greetings! I'm new to the forum but I'm a master technician for Mazda and I'm quite familiar with the ferocity of electrical systems like this that can cause these issues, and I'd like to offer some insight as to why this happens.

So, back in 09' the Mazda CX-7 was coming back to the dealer a LOT with a bad PCM, put a new one in and it blows within a few minutes of running. What was happening is the alternator was going out and causing the PCM not to be able to read the output voltage and therefore drive the alternator to full output when not necessary. This meant that the voltage would shoot up to 16+ volts and destroy the PCM. In turn, much more expensive and robust vehicles like Genesis cars will sense this when the alternator shoots the voltage up and then turn off the electrical system to preserve it from going out. The easiest way to check for this is to run the vehicle with all loads on, headlights and high beams, blower motor on high, A/C on, and interior lights on. If the car doesn't do it when everything is on, it's because the extra load won't let the voltage get too high. Therefore, eliminating the issue. Hope this helps in the future!

Update. We kept our 2011 Genesis. Our alternator completely went out over a year ago. We replaced it about 1 1/2 years ago, and haven’t had a problem since. Great and reliable car. If it starts doing that again we will just check the alternator.

Test the crankshaft position sensor. I have a 2010 while I was driving it completely shut off on me but starts up I can drive it now but I'll be taking the risk of it shutting off again. I read a code p0335 but when I took it to the shop they couldn't get anything back on it and said it's fine smh

**UPDATE** we Are still Driving this car with absolutely no problems. After putting up with it dying periodically for quite a long time, I think it has been resolved finally. Whew! The alternator went out, we replaced it, and boom. We’ve gone 8 months with no More dying

**UPDATE #2” it’s 2024 and we are still driving this 2011 Genesis. I love this car
