  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently bought a 2012 Genesis 3.8L with high-tech package (or premium package maybe). As I was driving down the highway, the SCC (smart cruise control) malfunction indicator light went on. It then went off when I stopped the car but would then go on again after about 20-30 minutes of driving or maybe driving on the highway. It does this repeatedly. I took it in to the dealership but they couldn't figure it out. It didn't go on for them and they had no clue what to do. I googled it, and it appears this year had some trouble with this feature and I was wondering if anyone had experienced this and what they did about it. I also read spending $4,000 to replace the module doesn't necessarily fix it. And that blog was 3 years old, so I hope there has been some progress on a viable solution. It's not really that necessary for me, but it would be nice to have cruise control, I just don't feel like spending $4,000 for a replacement. Other than that, it's an awesome car.

Can you stop at an autozone or similar and get the codes pulled when the problem is happening? Intermittent issues are a pita but a code might help

I had the same light on my 2012 R-Spec. Fortunately is was still under the 60K warranty at the time. The SCC unit was replaced for free. I've read that it is thousand of $ if not under warranty. I'm personally not a big fan of the adaptive cruise control. Seems like it brakes too hard and I hate when it brakes going down hills. It'd be great if there was an option to switch it to "normal" cruise control.

It is not perfect, but overall I like it a lot. As for braking down hills, technically it maintains the legal speed for you, however, I hit the cancel button and take advantage of gravity too!. To avoid slowing down coming up on a slower vehicle you have to change lanes sooner than I'd do with normal CC as once detected, it slows you well ahead of time. There are times though, you can just follow the car in front through an interchange where your speed varies and it takes you through perfectly.

Thanks. That is very helpful. I may get the dealership to run a diagnostic. I have heard good things about ACC but I have also heard not so good things, too. I don't really mind not having it, and like you, would really rather have normal cruise control.
