2012 R-Spec purchase concerns

Reading past threads there seems to be a real concern about the 8 speed transmissions. Am I correct that all Genesis 8 speeds beginning in 2012 are the same unit regardless of engine?

I just found an April 2012 built car (R Spec) with 79k highway miles, one owner, garage kept, private party car.. The dealer service records show just oil changes. Never a repair order. Is this uncommon? Still under factory drivetrain warranty. I just read a slew of transmission problem threads for this 8 speed trans. Now I will not sleep well tonight. Plans to buy it in 4 days are in order. Called extended service plan companies and they run around $55-$79 per month for comprehensive coverage. Same as for our 2006 Toyota Avalon, one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet. I also quoted a 2014 BMW 535 for comparison and the monthly number shot up to $250/month which makes senses because premiums are factored based on claims paid history; hence the more reliable the vehicle, the lower the premium. Makes me wonder how frequent the woeful posts about the 8 speed transmissions really are. Of course we only hear the horror stories when things turn bad...make sense if so. I sold cars and extended service plans when I worked at Carmax for 4 years and learned about the pricing structure, so I could always equate premium pricing with reliability.
Any further thoughts on the transmissions? This one claims not to use motor oil like some early production R-Spec models. AND..how the heck does one change the transmission fluid and filter? What is the spec for the fluid that makes it so proprietary? In the BMW, using Valvoline MaxLife Full Synthetic ATF is the way to go, and BMW says their fluid is 'Lifetime' as well. Seems this topic is disputed in lots of different cars, but common sense says to change it! The Valvoline label says applicable for Hyundai SP-II, Sp-III, SP-N, SPH-IV. Looks like the SPH-IV fits the bill? Cost around $17/gallon at Walmart. I always turn my own wrenches for all service on my vehicles in self defense, but I have trouble finding online info for these cars. Does anyone do their own work on Genesis or what? Use OEM fluid or one that meets the exact Hyundai spec. Its a sealed transmission and you will need some special tools. but its doable if you have a lift.

get a 13 or 14 model rspec and enjoy the ride! These cars are GREAT
many improvements over the 2012 and not much if any of a cost penalty at this point

I paid under $250 to drain and fill my transmission last year at the dealer
Do that and move on - these are great cars

How many miles you looking for and what is your price range?

OP, be aware that the car you mention no longer has a powertrain warranty. That goes bye bye after the first owner. Thus, you definitely need an extended warranty.
