  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently bought a 2013 sedan with the 3.8. My neighbour's elderly father passed away and I purchased the car as it had only 25,000k or 15000 miles. It's in quite nice shape.

The battery is new and the fob batteries are new. One proximity key will open the doors and start the car fine. The other one I need to use the physical key to open the doors and actually push the start button with the fob to start it.
I though that maybe it had never been used in 9 years and lost the connection to the car.

So, I've got 2 questions. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the spare key issues are? And is there a physical slot for the physical key in the car? I know older sedans had that, but I don't see it on mine, and there's nothing on the dash or center console.

I think that the most likely issue is that the battery in that smart key is dead (even new batteries can be dead), installed backwards, or there is corrosion on the contacts from the last battery.
There is a mechanical key slot in the driver's door, the trunk lid, and the glove box. There is none for starting the car, however there is a secondary system in the smart key that works without battery power. It is powered by a magnetic field at the start/stop button.

Thanks for the reply. I've put 2 new batteries in, cleaned contacts. It's definitely something other than the batteries.

I fixed it. I took it apart again, right down to the board and spray cleaned all the contacts and micro switches. Ta da!
