I have a 2013 Genesis 3.8 sedan. I have had zero problems with drive train and engine, body/interior but have had failures with the mirrors, speedometer cluster. The mirrors have a gremlin where they will fold unexpectedly and without any user input. The service tech assured me I was causing it lol but it has persisted throughout the life of the car. The driver side mirror doesn't fold because the gear inside is defective so when I experience the passenger side mirror folding unexpectedly and press the button for the mirrors to unfold it runs continuously for about 15-30 seconds. Very expensive to have the dealer replace the gear which involves tearing the door apart.
The speedometer cluster failed at about 40K. It was out of warranty by then. I'm retired and don't put a lot of miles on the car. The dealer wanted to $2200 for a new cluster plus labor. I found a used cluster on eBay for $200 and installed it after watching a YouTube video. The cluster had 104000 miles on it and the dealer said there was no way to reprogram the mileage even with a new cluster. Something specific to the 2013 model and later models could be reprogrammed. I keep my cars a long time and while the added mileage was annoying and the car only had about 40K it was acceptable to me which brings me to the question I am curious about. Our other car is a 2010 Subaru Outback and getting a little old but still runs great but we are looking for a replacement new car. Has Hyundai or KIA improved their quality on sub components? I like the new offerings but am concerned about long term issues. The Genesis problems have soured me. TIA
