2013 Genesis - trunk issue

The trunk just recently started opening by itself without using the remote or the button on the inside of the door. Not knowing it was open it kills the battery. Have had to jump it twice. Anyone having issues like this? I took it to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong with it....

A few possibilities here, but I would take a guess that this could be an intermittent short in the switch or harness to the trunk release switch in the driver's door.

This sounds eerily similar to the "windows going down by themselves" problem, which is most frequently caused by water intrusion into the electricals due to failure of the water barrier in the driver's door after heavy rain, washing, etc.

Usual fix: Remove the driver's door panel. Inspect electrical components for water intrusion/damage. Clean, dry and/or replace the electric plugs and switch(es) as required. Repair/replace the water control sheeting to prevent recurrence. Ensuring there's a drip loop in the wiring harness helps prevent recurrence too.

If that fails, my next stop would be to check the fuse block as well as harness between the trunk release switch and fuse block for corrosion ("blue crusties"), intermittent shorts, etc.

Same thing happens to me. About once every 2 months. Unsure how/why it does this. I started to not leave the key fob in my pocket when I get home thinking that maybe I was accidentally pushing the button, but it still happens. Haven’t opened the door panel to see if that’s an issue. Just chalked it up to the random electrical issues I have.
