  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone! I own a 2013 Hyundai genesis sedan 3.8. I recently got my brake master cylinder replaced, and have started hearing a weird noise in the engine bay near the passenger side.

The sound is something similar to like an aircraft landing gear when it is being engaged. The sound comes on intermittenly when changing gears in low gears around 10 mph, and kicks in again at around 30-40 mph.

It sounds like something is being actuated, and the noise disappears, and comes on again at around 30-40mph.

In park, the sound does not come on, it is only when it is in drive that the sound comes on. I replicated the noise by putting the car in drive, and holding the brakes, and pressing on the gas.

It sounds like something is turning on for about 3-5 seconds, and the sound shuts off.

This started happening after my brake master cylinder was replaced.

Please help

Hello, I've been investigating this noise, and took my car back to the shop where the master cylinder was replaced. We found the noise to be coming from the brake booster vacuum pump. The mechanic pinched a hose near the brake hose, and the vacuum pump seems to kick on intermittently. The pump does not actuate when the car is in park, but when in gear, or driving at low speeds, the pump actuates for about 5-10 seconds.

Any suggestions on what this issue might be. The brakes seem to work fine, but it fails the third brake booster test where the brake gradually moves up after depressing and shutting the engine off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm Karl. Did you every find a fix for your problem. I'm having the same problem also. It's has been drive me crazy. I have exchanged three different pumps and I get the same results a variable up and down noise like a siren for 3-5 seconds.

We are also having this kind of problem with our 2012 sedan 3.8L v6.
Had a local shop put on a new master cylinder because the brake pedal didn't start applying until nearly to the floorboard. Still didn't fix problem so they called Hyundai and got a case number for us and we took it to a Hyundai dealer for a service recall. Now we have a good brake pedal pressure but are getting a warning light and weird sounds like something is actuating. They want $1800 to replace the brake booster and sensor!
