  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 2.0t GC that is Platinum Metallic (paint code AU). I have had to touch up 5 spots on the hood that have chipped to the metal and started rusting in the last 8 months since I have had it. It's almost like bugs are knocking the paint off of it. The dealership says it looks like normal wear and tear, but I have never had another vehicle with so many chips to the metal. The times before on other cars, I knew a rock hit me or something. Is this a known issue? Thanks,

It is really hard to judge whether the problem is caused by a defective paint job, or by the external environment you are driving in. If you live where there is no snow, and no sand/rocks put on the streets, and don't drive on unpaved roads, I would guess you have a defective paint job and should demand they fix it if still within 3 year - 36K mile warranty.

I agree Mark. Car saw snow once, but sat in the driveway until several days after the snow melted. She only sees asphalt - I don't hit any conditions that would cause this. I will keep taking it in so they have a record of my complaints.

BTW, I have AU on my Genesis Sedan, and have not had that problem.

Good to know. Seems to just be the hood on mine. Fenders and everything else seem fine - may just be a defective job on the hood. What year sedan?

2009.

I have AU as well and my paint job is solid.

I have a theory that the hood could have been repainted. I've noticed cheap paint will do that on a hood far worse than factory paint

No, it's not defective. The paint on these cars is very, very hard. Hard paint chips very easily, but on the plus side is very difficult to ruin with even aggressive machine polishing. There are many options to fixing paint chips, from paint pens to Dr. Color Chip to all out repainting. Check out the Meguiar's forum for lots of details, among others.
