If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone.

I have a 2013 Genesis R-Spec with the factory 19" wheels.

Owned it for about a year now and I notice that the upper edges of my wheels seem to have a small amount of... something... on them that was not there when I bought the car.

When I wash my wheels, I can almost buff it away but after a day or so it comes back.

To be honest, I didn't see this until I started using some meguiars spray on tire shine. Some of the spray hits the edges of the rims and I do always wipe it off but I don't wash it off. Wondering if there is a connection there...

Has anyone experienced this before, with or without the usage of tire shine?

Is there any product that can fix this for me or do I need professional assistance?

Any input is appreciated!

I would try a clay bar.

Spray the tire shine on a brush or towel first (that’s what I do) then wipe. Avoid spraying loosely on the tire without blocking the rim.

Remy, do you think the tire shine is causing the issue?

I mean if you think about it even when using tire shine on the tires and with the sun beaming on them if you don’t keep it up your tires start to get that faded look and it seems that might be the case with the rim having sun beaming on it and there might still be tire shine on the rim so it’s giving that faded look right?

Good point.

I'm hoping it's something I'm doing and not that these wheels just fade like this.

I'm gonna try the clay bar and lay of the spray for a while. It's the rainy season here in Cali anyways so no need for tire shine anyways.

It’s the first I’m hearing about this issue with those rims and you mentioned you only noticed this after spraying tire shine so 1+1=?? I live in SoCal and it might be rainy season but use that term lightly lol. Just apply tire shine to brush or towel and wipe instead of spraying everywhere.

Northern Cali, Sac to be specific.

Plenty of rain here, you guys, not so much.

maybe the previous owner (or your tire person) put the wheel balance weight on the outside of the rim to make that mark?))
either way to fix now, yes try clay bar and be careful
good luck~
