Sorry if this info has been posted before. But I wanted to take a few pics and post them in case anyone is in doubt on what to do.
What you need:
(3) bottles of Mobil 1 75w/90
24mm socket or box end wrench
anaerobic sealer (something I personally use on all auto plugs)
(1) Advance Auto universal hand pump
Paper towels
Drain pan
Jack stands
One thing I always do before I drain a transmission or differential is to make sure I can remove the fill plug first. The reason why is if you drain one of those things without being able to fill it back up you are SOL (or shitting bricks, lol).
1) Jack the rear of the car up. I put the jack stands in front of each rear wheel on the body jack points.
2) Remove refill plug with the 24mm tool of your choice (make sure you drain pan is under the drain plug!)
3) Remove drain plug
4) Once the differential is done draining I use half a bottle of Mobil to clean out any residual junk out. I insert the hand pump tubing into the refill plug hole and start pumping fluid in until I see clean fluid coming out. While doing this I try to rotate the tube around to ensure I get as much of the differential carrier that I can.
5) I clean both differently plugs with brake clean. Then I remove both crush washers and lightly sand them with 220 grit sandpaper to clean them up.
6) Personal choice. I use anaerobic sealer to lightly coat the threads on both plugs. This sealer does not harden. I use it a lot on my VW's and Saab's.
7) Install the drain plug.
8) Start pumping! I think it took 1 3/4's of the bottles to fill it up. I stopped once differential fluid came out of the fill hole.
9) Install fill plug.
10) Clean your shit up!
