  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I can't imagine ALL Equus drivers here live in the South or West, so for those experiencing this brutal winter how is Snow Mode treating you?
I'm finding it to be fantastic, better than my previous Passats with 4Motion. I haven't once found myself afraid to drive in snow, unlike my original Gen which scared the crap out of me in even 1/2 an inch. So far, regardless of "wet", "dry", "slush", or depth the car keeps moving smoothly.
Of course reduced speed helps, especially when turning.
Anybody else?

I can tell you that here in Texas, while we haven't seen much snow this year, we did have an ice storm.

I backed my 2009 Genesis 4.6 out of the garage and into the road, put it in drive, and it WOULD NOT MOVE...ESP kept the wheels from turning. Had some kids push me back into the driveway, and immediately started looking for a M37 with AWD.

Since then, I've come to my senses a bit, but it was pretty freaky.

Ironically, the day after writing this post, it has snowed in Dallas. Didn't have too many problems on the way to work...a couple of ESP engagements when starting from a dead stop.

Same here! The snow mode came in handy.. big difference and better feel when accerlating from a stop.

On snow or icy surfaces when moving away from a stop I would recommend selecting 'Manual' mode on the transmission and starting in 2nd gear. As soon as you start moving bump it up to 3rd. Starting in a higher gear reduces the chances of wheel-spin and helps get the car moving. Once underway just go back to Auto mode.

Yep, did that in my '11. But the '14 does that for you in SnowMode, also utilizing ESC and ABS. Truly they got this right. To the point that I don't think AWD is needed.
Fwiw, we're in historic snowfalls here so this opinion is from experience. Perfect timing for me!
;)

How is the genesis on snow with good winter tyres, like Blizzaks or X-Ice?

I have used both Yokohama W-Drive on my 2009 and Michelin Alpin winter tires on my 2012 Genesis and have had no problems over 5 winter seasons. The Yokohamas were a bit more grippy but wore quickly, the Michelins are wearing well but not quite as good for traction. I think any good quality winter tire like Blizzaks or X-Ice will be fine also. Go online to The Tire Rack for recommendations and comparisons.

I have Blizzaks on mine. It's definitely a lot slower getting going compared to having the same tires on AWD or FWD, but the car is super stable. I've done a couple 3+ hour highway on snow/ice covered roads with heavy winds and felt fairly confident for the most part.
